Edition #101 – 6/23/2006
You thought I was going to tell you to buy something didn’t you?
Nope. This isn’t a product. In fact, you CAN’T buy it. It’s not for sale.
It’s something that only YOU can create.
I’m talking about commitment.
Last month we talked quite a bit about VISION (see Vision Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 in my blog).
I explained the absolute importance of having a vision related to your online success, or any area of your life. I also gave you the opportunity to write out your own vision. If you haven’t done it yet, I encourage you to take some time and hash out a vision for your life and business.
So what’s next? Now that you’ve got this vision, what do you do with it?
Feed it.
I’ve found that if I don’t feed my vision, it gets weaker and eventually dies.
Author Dion McInnis says this about vision:
“A vision grows from your soul, fed by commitment and passion, and can be articulated with descriptions of how things will be when the vision is achieved. If you cannot describe life within the vision, it is only a dream of imagination; if you cannot find the passion and perseverance, perhaps all you have is a plan for a goal.”
Notice that the first thing a vision is fed by is commitment.
I think passion comes easy for most of us entrepreneurial types. If you’re like me, chances are that you’re passionate about a lot of things, and your vision is tied closely to your passion.
But commitment isn’t so easy.
Have you ever quit something that you started? Do you have a history of unfinished projects?
This may sound harsh, but in most cases it boils down to a lack of commitment.
Maybe you started with big plans of finally making it big in __(fill in your own opportunity here)__, but it didn’t work out the way you expected, and you quit.
You were not fully committed.
I think the biggest enemy of commitment is probably fear. We are afraid of failure, or other things, and that causes us to have a lack of commitment.
The ironic part is that the fear of failure is one of the biggest things that will lead you to failure.
As Franklin D. Roosevelt so famously coined, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”
So friend, I encourage you to put those fears behind you today and COMMIT to your vision before 2007.
This is the perfect time of year to formulate your vision and commitment. Don’t wait until January 1st to do it. Do it now, so you can hit the ground running in the new year.
Write down your commitment.
Every year our family writes out our New Year’s resolutions. What I’ve just realized is that I only ever achieve about 50% or less of my resolutions each year. Why? Because I wasn’t committed to them. They are more like half-baked goals, without true vision and commitment.
This year instead of making a whole bunch of resolutions, I want to make just a few commitments.
Your commitment could look something like this:
“I commit to my vision of owning a successful internet marketing business. I am committed to living my life with integrity, and I will do the things necessary to run my business in accordance with this principle. I commit to taking risks this year. My vision is to make $______ in 2007, and I commit to working hard each day to make it happen.”
Take some time and commit to your vision. Write it down, sign and date it.
As always, you can post your comments here in my blog.
Have a great day!
That was a great post Eric! The only thing that I would like to add is that you should take out a block of time each day, even if it is only 15 minutes, and seed your vision. Picture yourself achieving your goals and dreams, affirm it daily and then let nothing stop you from conquering your dreams.
A great quote by Napoleon Hill goes as follows…. “Cherish your visions and your dreams as they are the children of your soul, the blueprints of your ultimate achievements.”

Hi Eric,
Thanks for your free advice. I wish that I could take it. Unfortunately every site that I tried to make money on the internet wants some sort of payment and I am dead broke and cannot afford to spend a cent on anything extra right now.
I wish that I could find a site where i can earn an extra income by typing since my typing speed is over 90 words per minute.
Hope you can give me some helpful hints.
Rgds
