Free Commissions Review (Tim Atkinson Clicksure Scam Exposed)

By | March 20, 2013

There are scammy and spammy products launched into the “make money online” niche all the time. I’ve given warnings and done various product reviews over the years, but there’s so much junk out there that I couldn’t cover it all if I wanted to.

I’m also not primarily in the business of being an Internet watchdog. It’s not really all that fun. So I tend to ignore most of the scams that land in my inbox, and try to stay focused on delivering value through my own business, and making money in ethical ways online.

Once in awhile something will really catch my attention or make me mad, and that’s the situation today.

The Prelaunch Hype

Over the past week or two, I received several “JV invitations” for a product launch called Free Commissions. I get those kind of invitations all the time, and it basically just means that someone wants me to promote their product as an affiliate. Some of those invitations came from Clicksure (the payment processor), from a JV broker, and from a 2nd-tier affiliate.

According to one of the invitations, the launch is being conducted by Tim Atkinson and Zak Meftah. The JV invite page contained a video of Tim Atkinson, and was signed at the bottom by “Tim Alexander”.

I’d give you a link to the page, but frankly it’s an embarrassment to the Internet marketing community (although it is sadly typical). There is no mention of the product itself or the value that will be provided to customers. It’s only about how much money they made on their last launch (over a million), and how they’re going to make more this time. There are affiliate prizes including a BMW.

Before I continue, I’ll give the first of a few disclaimers that I’ll offer throughout this review (to add perspective, and hopefully avoid being called a hypocrite). I’m not against product launches. They are a big part of my own business model, and I also teach how to do them. I’m also a fan of affiliate contests. I’ve participated in many of them, and held plenty of my own.

What I’m NOT a fan of is when marketers utterly disregard their customers, and that’s the feeling I got from this launch before it even started.

The Emails

In spite of the above hype, I really didn’t give this launch a second thought. After all, I’ve seen it all before.

Then the emails started hitting my inbox. Again nothing new, but what caught me by surprise was two things…

– The number of people promoting it, including some that I’ve associated with in the past.
– The outrageous lies contained in the emails.

OK, time for my next disclaimer. I’m an email marketer too, and I’ve pushed the envelope with my marketing at times. But I ALWAYS make sure I can substantiate the things that I write.

Unlike many of the emails I saw for Free Commissions…

“I just saw this sick video on YouTube and it’s received already 1,539,922 views in the last 5 days.”

Really? That’s funny since it’s not on Youtube, and the sales page just went up today.

“This video was shared 189,294 times on Facebook.”

Really… the moment it was launched?

“Good news! Your application has been accepted! Please review the details of the position here:”

What application, and which position was that? LOL

“Your Payment has been approved. Set Up Your Payment Information Here”

Uh huh. I could go an and on with the variations of fake payment notifications, and I’m not even going to bother getting into all the ridiculous income claims.

The Sales Page

After receiving this barrage of emails, of course I clicked one of them to check it out for myself.

www.freecommissions.com (NOT an affiliate link)

Here we have a typical scammy sales video complete with the so-called zillionaire, the cars, the yacht, the girls, the clearly fake testimonial videos, the bank account screen shots.

But here’s what really made my blood boil. The guy, Tim Alexander, goes on and on about all the fakes and scammers. He even goes so far as to say that he’s NOT an actor!

Of course the fine print at the bottom of the page says “In some cases actors have been used.” So I guess that makes it OK for the actor to say he’s not an actor!

The worst part was the ridiculous income claims. Folks, I’m not even going to waste my time, or yours, by quoting the outrageous claims made in the sales video. I’d be typing them up for the rest of the day. The gist of it is this…

You will make hundreds of thousands of dollars per month, with ZERO work.

This is the message that is given over and over and over again throughout the video.

Yet another disclaimer. I’ve got nothing against sales videos. In fact, I’ve been known to write very persuasive sales copy and create very persuasive sales videos. But there’s a huge difference between persuasive copy, and outright lies. These guys didn’t even use qualifiers in their script, such as “you could” (make money), or this has the “potential” (to make you rich).

They just flat out said you will make tons of money with zero work.

The price was $49…

But when I clicked to leave the page, I was given an exit splash page with a $20 discount. As I continued to attempt to leave the site, I encountered no less than FIVE exit pages.

The final one took me directly to the shopping cart, with an offer to buy Free Commissions for only $9. At that price, I figured it was worth it just for the entertainment of seeing what was behind the curtain…

The Payment

The payment was processed by ClickSure. From what I understand, their business was birthed as a result of the scammiest of products/vendors that got kicked out of ClickBank, who needed a new way to sell.

According to ClickSure’s website, they are based in China and Mauritius. Because of this, it seems to me that they are not afraid of the FTC, or anyone else who might come against them for making false claims.

Last time I purchased something through ClickSure, my credit card company’s fraud department called me within minutes to verify the transaction. That didn’t happen this time (yet), but I was certainly surprised to see this statement on the thank-you page AFTER I paid:

“ClickSure.com is an International Company and therefore due to fluctuated Currency Exchanged Rate, the actual amount that appears on your credit card statement will be slightly different from your order amount.”

Well that’s nice to know.

The Upsells

These guys truly redefined “upsell hell”.

Here’s my final disclaimer. I’m not against upsells. I do them and I teach them. I usually do an upsell and a downsell. On a couple of occasions I’ve used multiple upsells and downsells in a sales funnel, but I’ve always treated my customers with respect, and there’s always been an easy way out.

After making the initial purchase, I was presented with SEVEN additional offers prior to reaching the members area.

The first One Time Offer, which purported itself to be “streaming live” was $297. There was no way to bypass the video! I had to watch it until the price button appeared until I could decline. Worse than that, it was totally insulting. It included phrases like…

“Hit the “no” link and go back to your pathetic life of struggle”

and

“You’d be a complete moron to not take this offer right now”

Upon declining I was taken to the 2nd offer, which was the same thing for $197 (but called it a 50% discount). More ridiculous claims, such as….

“$110k a month. All you have to do is copy and paste a link. Literally all the work is done for you.”

From there I was taken to another $197 offer in which Tim Alexander (along with his very busty model friend) said,

“I want to give you my exact website that makes $238,793.14”.

And no, he doesn’t say it’s a copy or a replica of the site. It’s THE site, and he even says he is going to “transfer the site to you.” Again I had to watch this video before I could decline the offer.

From there, I was taken to another video, in which the busty model friend offered to give me the same website for only $97!

From there, I was taken to yet another offer which I was forced to endure before I could decline. This one was $175, and offered…

“Free commissions for life, without ever doing any work, without even lifting a finger.”

Yes that’s a quote, as are these:

“The only thing you have to figure out is how to spend the money. This is no hype, no gimmick.”

“All you need to know is that when you wake up in the morning you’ll see commissions like this, for life, for free. The money never turns off.” (While showing a screenshot of $68k/day commissions)

When I declined that offer, I was offered the same thing for $75. As we were obviously getting toward the end of this funnel, the insults continued to get worse:

“If you’re going to say no to this, do us both a favor and just quit. Go back to your pathetic life. You don’t have what it takes. Are you the loser that most people think you are?”

Apparently I don’t have what it takes, because I said no… and was taken to yet another offer! This one was for a $1 trial. I’m not sure of the total price, as I didn’t stick around to watch the full video.

The Product

The membership area is laid out in an organized fashion. Unfortunately, it seems to be organized in such a way that its primary objective is to get more money out of you.

Here’s a screen shot:

Free Commissions

Step #1 is to register for the member’s only webinar (Better hurry, there’s only 10 seats left). Nothing wrong with webinars, or selling via webinars for that matter, but most likely the objective in this case is to sell you something expensive. I made the mistake once of allowing someone to conduct such a webinar with my customers. I will not make that mistake again.

Step #2 is to schedule your strategy session via telephone. Hmmm, interesting that the signup form asks you how much money you have available to invest in your business training! A classic tactic, and a sure sign that they’re going to be selling you some expensive coaching. (The more credit you have available on your card, the more it’ll cost).

Step #3 is to claim your “free website”, which is actually just a video that leads to a web hosting affiliate link. The strategy itself is not a bad one. I’ve got no problem with offering incentives for web hosting referrals. But I wouldn’t exactly consider this to be something worth paying for. If it were my member’s area, I’d call it an “unadvertised bonus”, as I often do with such offers.

Beyond those three steps, most of the members area consists of advertisements. So where’s the product?

There is a web-based squeeze page builder, and a couple of plugins and videos. Those tools and information are OK, but certainly do not even begin to fulfill the claims made in the sales video.

I didn’t find ANYTHING that required zero work. For example, the squeeze page builder has templates, but you still have to write your own copy. Even if it DID do all the work for you, I don’t see any possibility of making the volume of “hands free” income that the sales video promises.

They do deliver something. I would even go so far as to say it’s “possible” to make money with these tools. Squeeze pages are a great component of a permission-based marketing model. I use them all the time, and I make money with them. But that doesn’t even BEGIN to justify the marketing.

I call this a scam. I’m very sensitive about using that word, because it is often not justified by those who use it. I’ve been called a scammer simply for being in the business of teaching others how to make money, and it never feels good.

Often what we’ll see in this industry are hyped up sales pages and products that do not meet all the expectations of those who buy them. That does not necessarily make something a scam.

In this case, the blatant lies, combined with utter disregard for the customer’s experience leads me to label it as an actual scam.

The Bottom Line

Watch out for this one, and others like it. I’ve been warning about these kind of scammy products for years, and we’ll be seeing them for years to come. They will always find another payment processor, etc.

I was really disappointed to see so many well-known marketers promoting this scam. Most of them are not scammers themselves, but in this case are guilty of blindly promoting something without checking it out first.

I thought about publishing their names here (there’s over 30 of them listed on the JV page alone), but I don’t want to muddy the waters and turn this into a hate-fest. Some of them have promoted my products in the past, and/or I’ve promoted theirs. These are guys with huge influence… the combined power to contact millions of people almost instantly. That’s partly why I felt it was important to call out this scam; since I know many of my readers are on those lists.

I do expect some flak from this review, and there will obviously be some fallout from former JV partners when it comes time for me to launch my next product (which is soon).

If you were someone who promoted Free Commissions, I’m asking you to do something brave. Send an email out to your list and retract your endorsement. I’ve avoided naming names (you know who you are), so just do the honorable thing and renounce this scam.

Like I said at the beginning of this review, these kind of things are not fun to write. I do not intend to make a habit of it. But I just couldn’t stay silent on this one today.

As always, you are welcome to post your questions and comments below 🙂

Have a great day!

Thank you Eric, I am not alone….I also promote some click sure products, but not all of them. I do not like to promote a product with a hour long video. But I also check the sales pages, and go through the process, much like you do..

But I am glad you share your results and your stories, perhaps, I need to do the same…

As usual,I’ve had this one arrive at my
inbox several times. I won’t go as far as unsubscribe to the promoters (it’s not their fault). I’ve only gone as far as the car arriving in the driveway upon which I just move on.

    Eric,

Like you I believe in integrity and ethics in marketing on the internet. There is no reason I can see to deceive people in the manner you described, other than to conduct criminal activity.

The Federal Trade Commission and most states take a dim view of Deceptive Trade Practices and fraud.

The FTC has a fraud division and it is quite easy to file a fraud complaint. Any internet marketer selling across state lines, making false claims and deceptive statements, may be in violation of Federal law regarding fraud.

While some marketers may think they have deep pockets and good lawyers; no one has deeper pockets than the US Attorney’s office. If they elect to prosecute they win about 97% of the cases.

The Secretary of State in the state in which the promoters of this program reside, if notified, may elect to pursue Deceptive Trade Practice actions against the promoters (without a citizen pressing the case).

In many states DTP convictions carry mandatory fines and triple damages running into the tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars.

There are limits to what should be allowed in the name of Internet Marketing. Many of the good guys and gals making a living online, including you Matt, maintain a level of honesty, truth and reputation that protects those that follow them from fraud and deception.

Almost a half century ago Zig Zigler said “Honesty and integrity are absolutely essential for success in life.” I believe that and could not have said it better myself.

If you know who the skunks are that promoted this trash, I urge you to contact the FTC and the State Secretary of State in which they live to make them aware of their fraud and deception. If it goes farther, that’s good; if not you at least did what you could to stop it.

Thank you for providing a valuable service by taking the veil off this mess.

Thanks for all your effort to expose Free Commissions for what it is!!! Please check out
the pre-launch opportunity of “Level 9 app” at
L9app.com/billsbizL9 and let us know what you think about it. Is it “too good to be true”?
It appears to be very well done and has a very
honest mission statement. Very interesting pay plan. Appears to be very timely. It is not being promoted by a host of marketers. I look forward to your review!! Thanks again!!

I want to thank you so much for thisd warning. it is so hard for us newbies to find something that is real. I think the FTC should monitor this stuff closer especially if it comes from out of the states . I hate up sales I want the truth up front of what it is going to cost you spring for the first and seceond up sale then here comes the third and you can’t afford it so here you sit with a partial program that doesn’t work and this is after you have put out $ 300 and don’t even know if it will work. Again thank you so much for this warning .

Having on your list, taking your advice and purchasing many of your products, this excellent review of an inelegant (I’m being kind LOL) is the sort of thing I’ve come to expect from you. I appreciate your courage and truthfulness. I fell for two products a few months back from these same people, actually spending some money with them. It wasn’t long before I was seeking a refund, and it came as no surprise the mark-up they charge for conversion into a foreigne currency (the yuan, I think) wasn’t part of the refund. I have a ton of email from folks promoting this product, and thanks to my previous experience with the team responsible for this slick stuff, I tuned them out. A tremendous THANK You! Eric. Online marketers everywhere owe you a debt of gratitude.

Too bad I didn’t see your review before I got it. Their payment processor should have been a tip off.
I wonder how much of a hard time they’re
going to give me when I ask for my refund.
It took 2 days for them to reply to my help request when I couldn’t access the members area immediately after I bought it. I now expect their “make money or I’ll do it for you guarantee” will turn into more crap.

Couldn’t have said it all better than you just did! The old expression “been there, done that” definitely rings true for me as I went through the same thing several months back for a product that was highly recommended by a very well-known internet marketer (name withheld for obvious reasons), and guess who handled the payment? ClickSure! Any time that name appears, I stay away from whatever is being offered. It took me 3 months to get my refund back for the purchase I made and had to deal with several “representatives” with ClickSure in order to accomplish that, minus the various transaction fees that had been tacked on. They had taken it upon themselves to set me up on a $97.00 monthly charge which I did not sign up for and ended up having to close that particular bank account out. The bank took it over from there and eventually were able to settle the score with ClickSure. For every charge on any of my accounts now, if there is a foreign transaction fee or any other type of fee, their Fraud Unit calls me to verify that it is legit. Well, enough said – guess I just felt you should know that you are not alone in how you feel. Every word you have said is the honest truth, and that is what I appreciate about you and I thank you!!

After reading your post I searched my in box and found a letter from a Internet marketer I thought had credibility. His note said that he hadn’t tried the course, but that the guy promoting it was one of his affiliates and he always made thousands of dollars within a short time as his affiliate. This is what I wrote back to him:

You don’t know what it is, he makes a lot of money, so you’re going to recommend it to your list.

You haven’t reviewed it, tried it, or evidently know anyone else who’s tried it. Still, you’re willing to put your name on the line and send out to your list for a commission.

    Credibility gap?

    Oh, yes.

I resign from your list. I’ll click it myself.

Dear Eric: We need more people like you! I can say that you are one of the 5 guys I really trust on this IM world, you call it as you see (as these other 4 guys also). From all of you, I learned to promote only the things I really tested…I just stopped trusting a big guru because he always promotes overpriced products, I know that’s not illegal or bad, he makes more money, right? But knowing that there are better priced alternatives and not telling people just because that way he makes more money, I don’t know, maybe it borders on unethical (because he is not fully informing his potential customers, just leading them to what is best for him). Anyway, you really should seriously think about publishing those names you said Eric, that way you would be informing all of your customers so we never ever listen to that people anymore. I look forward to your next product, I know it will add value to my business! You rock!

What a great pleasure to see this. What a great pleasure to see a person actually following through to stop this crap. I have been researching scams for the last 2 years and have several that I will fully detail them and the people who not only develop them but also those that promote product without checking them. More on that later. Right now I have found a on-going scam ripping off 200,000,000 dollars and am doing the final touches on exposing all those involved. If we honest marketers really want to clean up the internet market it is not enough just to delete and move on. We must be proactive and actually expose it so innocent people do not get hurt. You have given me hope as I have felt alone especially when some honest marketers have turned their backs on truth and honesty in marketing. I am dying and have not made anything yet, thus being on a starvation diet. I will not sell my soul for a buck. And yes, I think they are worse than the ones creating the programs because they sold the ethics for a buck. That is not alright. Thank you and hope you will respond to this. Rudy

Not surprised. Tim is the king of churn and burn products. Also once you are on his email list he uses his own email server and he just emailed you because you are get added to endless sublists so once you unsubscribe from one list you get added to another. He burned lots of people on Warrior forum. Too bad people decide to live their lives like that.

I expect their refund rate will be huge. But I think they expect that too. If you do a couple million in sales, and half of them refund, that’s still a million bucks. There’s always a lot of people who won’t refund, for various reasons (they’re too embarrased to ask, they forgot, etc.).

Thank you for exposing what is going on here. I searched my emails for this product and most of those promoting it have little or no information in their emails about what it is. I hope this will lead to others who, like you, can be trusted, to be more forthright in giving honest reviews of products that are suspect or of poor quality. It takes a long time for a newbie to learn what to look for in this deluge of marketing.

    Hi Eric,
My heartfelt thanks for having the courage to come forward and expose this scam. Not very many marketers would have done this and I bow low to you for taking this initiative.

Your emails will certainly have more attention from me from now on.

My email box was full of those ads, too. I was put off by the fact that my IP was used to address me and the acting of the actors pretty much gave things away. I admit, I also got to the $9 offer before I desperately took to the escape route. (No mean task, as you say)

I thank you for your review because I fell for one of the ‘ClickSure’ scams myself a few weeks ago and I am still waiting for a refund. They keep sending me email after email but so far not action.

So, thank you again. I hope many more people will read this!

Wow! Unbelievable! Thanks for the head up Eric.

I went ahead and watched the video… this guy had BS oozing out of every orifice of his body.

I would not have fallen for his F&N lies, but I realize that some people will, that is what he knows and why he is going through this clown show. I hope that many of these people will have the opportunity to read your blog before they are exposed to his smoke and mirrors show and start following his dangling carrots until he suck them dry.

Thanks for the movement you have started. We have to get rid of charlatans like this guy who are giving honest marketers like us a bad name.

    Harry.

Wow Eric, It’s obvious you are ticked off. I hope you got over it by writing this review to share the facts with us, before you started interacting with your family.
Nobody likes to be scammed or forced to watch a video only to be insulted at the end just because they couldn’t brainwash you to their way of thinking. I’ve opted out of lists when they do that to me. But, that’s not marketing to do that it’s just being a shyster. And I don’t want anything to do with one.
Personally if I were you, after you agreed to pay 9 bucks and the deal changed, I would have turned my credit card over and called the the 800 number on the back to cancel and not put up with the rest. The devil is a lyre and when God himself doesn’t promise us the sun, the moon and the stars there is no reason to believe any human can either. There are no free lunches somebody has to work to pay for it.
I appreciate your time you’ve invested in this I’m sure it took you most of the day. I’m going to go check my e-mail and if I find one promoting this I’m going to opt out of their list. And if enough people would do the same maybe we could clean up our marketing community.

Feel free to delete or edit my comment if you want because I added my website address and it’ll take you to a page titled getting a divorce and unless you read it, the title sounds like I’m promoting divorce and I assure you I’m NOT. It doesn’t matter to me if you do delete this. I just wanted to personally thank you for taking your time to look out for newer marketers and give us a heads up of what’s going on.

    Hi Eric,
Yet again you demonstrated why you are one of the few truly “good guys” in the IM niche. (Probably why I have been a member of your Eric Tips for several years.) Kudos to you for having the “guts” to speak out against this kind of dishonest hyped up product launch. I am sure there are lots of other influential marketers out there who will turn a blind eye to things like this as they are part of the “old boys club” and don’t want to make waves as it may cost them a few sales or partners down the road to promote their own launches. Thanks for standing up for honesty and integrity in the marketplace, Eric!

    Hi all

This is the same type of video and hype as we could see 2-3 months ago. Some super affiliate marketer picked up people from the street in to his fancy car just to let them try the super affiliate mega system he had invented.

And believe it or not, those people, that never had done any internet marketing before, made 5-6-700 USD before the end of the promotion video was finished.

And believe it or not, I didn’t buy the product:-)

    Thanks Eric for your research,
    Claes Staffansson
