LESSON #1: Introduction to Eric’s Tips

By | June 10, 2008

Welcome to Eric’s Tips!

If you want to start an online business, or if you want to make your current online business more profitable, you’ve come to the right place.

Please watch the following video:

Main points:

  • We’re going to start at the very beginning. It’s OK if you don’t know anything about online business.
  • I’m going to show you how to build an online business from ‘A’ to ‘Z’. If you’re an experienced internet marketer, please bear with me through the basics, because I’ll be sharing all of my advanced techniques too.
  • I have a lot of personal experience and success in online business, which qualifies me to teach you what I know.
  • I’m a “normal” guy, and I’m going to try to avoid the hype as much as possible.
  • Action steps:

    1) White list this email address: tips@ericstips.com (put me on your “safe list” to make sure you receive the lessons). For detailed instructions, please see:
    Whitelist instructions

    2) Make a folder to save all the emails you receive from me.

    3) Commit to following each lesson.

As always, you are welcome to post your questions and comments below.

    Have a great day!

Hi Betty- I’ll continue to put the main points and action points below each lesson, and I will probably put all the lessons onto DVD when the series is done. But in the mean time, maybe you could get some help getting the video to play on your computer.

This forum could be a good place to ask:

I know, it’s a tough choice for me… because I love to write… but I’ve decided to focus on the videos for now. I will try to make sure the written points convey the main points, and perhaps you can be selective in your video watching, depending on whether you want to get further details about a particular lesson.

Hi Noel- probably not MP3, because after the introductory lessons, most of them are going to be more like “show and tell” where I actually demonstrate how to do stuff on screen, which wouldn’t work as well as an audio recording. However, for my videos which are FLV (some are SWF and the long ones will be FLV), there is currently a tool which will allow you to rip an MP3 of the audio directly from my video. I’m not going to get into the details of how to do it, and I hesitate to mention it because I don’t want people ripping off my content, but for my subscribers who want to grab a copy of a lesson for their personal use only, you can experiment with this web based tool:

Hi Kevin- saving the email does not download the video, but I am planning on leaving the videos online permanently.

Hi Roland- it is possible that it could be a problem for people with slow internet connections, but unfortunately I can’t cater 100% to everyone. But I will also provide the written main points, and also I will try to keep the video file sizes minimal so they load more quickly.

Hi Paul- at the moment I haven’t created the rest of the lessons yet. It actually takes quite a bit of time to record the video, convert it, upload it, etc. So I doubt I will be able to do more than one per day. I anticipate releasing 5-6 new videos per week.

Hi Kay- i’m glad to see your enthusiasm 🙂 Unfortunately the lessons aren’t made yet. I’m releasing them as I make them. So at the end, people will have the benefit of getting them all at once, but for now you’ll be getting them as they are made.

      Hi! Eric,

I just had Lesson #1. It’s promissing and I am looking forward for the next lesson(s).

I also read your ebook “How to sell hosting for a profit” and I am happy to say that I am now in the process of starting a business of my own in this market. I allready purchased a domain name(I will not post it yet in here cause it’s not up and running yet) but I will be up and running in about 2 months I think.

Also the hostgator tip was a good one, although I am looking at some others in the US too.

Ok Eric thanks very much so far.

Greetings from Erik in The Netherlands.

Thanks for your energy & commitment. I’m sure I and many others will only gain from following your lessons.

Is it possible you could make your videos downloadable or available as a podcast so we can replay over and over off line ?

Hello Eric. Ditto on the Blessing thingy, we all get what we work for the most–you’re just the best for providing this service!
Question: I see that numerous times you make reference to acquiring a domain from one source, and web hosting from another. Why is this since they all provide these multiple services? There must be a good reason that you make this suggestion (other than to spread the ‘wealth’?.)
Please, can you share your thoughts on this? Meg

Thanks Meg, there are two reasons why I recommend that…

      1) My web host of choice is Hostgator but they are more expensive for domains. So I recommend to get the domains through my domain site (LifeDomains) which is cheaper.

      2) Typically when you register a domain through a web host, they make it difficult to manage your domain because they don’t want you to ever move to a different host. I prefer to have my domain registered with a company that is primarily in the domain registration business, and not the hosting business. LifeDomains is basically the same company as Godaddy (I am a licensed reseller… I’ll explain it as an advanced tip in a future lesson), and I have found it easy to manage my domains with them.

Thank you for this course Eric. It is very generous and appreciated. I very much enjoyed hearing about your family and life. It helps explain the integrety that resonates through your communications.
I have spent at lot of money buying products and not making money, I don’t have much money and I know my problem has been jumping from one thing to another when I got stuck on something. I know I need to have a plan and then spend my time, energy and money on that goal and nothing else. I just haven’t seemed able to finalize that goal yet. It’s my fault I get seduced by the next product and go there instead of just following through on what I have. My biggest roadblocks are tech stuff. I usually feel I don’t have the funds to outsource but the learning curve is steep and long.
I am really looking forward to the rest of the lessons.
      Thanks You!

      Hello Eric,
First timer, newbie and I am along for the ride for a while. Got here indirectly from someone I trust very much in the computer security world. He advised me to check out Joel Comm’s Adsense and that is how I got to you.
I have to be honest that my first gut reaction was to run for the hills and never look back and I would have done that but I trust the computer guy a lot.
The online marketing business makes a used car salesman and Amway look like Mother Theresa. That is not who I am and have always believed that the truth does not have to be manipulated or sold. It should be able to stand on its own.
I initially tried out Info Medias instant resale templates volume 1 and 2 and the first monthly resale template and at this time I returned all but volume 1. I did not return volume 1 because you where on it. I also ordered Adsense Premier on May 08, 2008 and have not received it yet so I do not know how I feel about it. I am very leary.
To make a long story short that is how I found you and so far I feel like you have a little more of the integrity I am looking for. If not for some your Welcome Edition statements I would have said goodbye. If not for some of your comments from your wife and Why I’m Changing the Format of Eric’s Tips I would not be considering trying this.
I have been in the alternative healthcare business for 28 years and feel like I have some insights and awareness about healing. My hope is you can help me to share this in a way that is beneficial to the general public and I might be able to generate some income so I would not have to work physically as hard as I do.
I look forward to possibly developing a working relationship with you.
      Thanks Mark

Hi, Eric! I’ve been with you from day one. I live on faith and I believe God has sent you to help me to follow my dream. I am a 74 year old grandmother who has raised an autistic grand-daughter. We have come so far. I am wanting to share my success with Jenny with others who are just at the beginning of this long, frustrating journey with autism. However, I have signed up with a program whose mentor tells me I can’t succeed with my writing. I am a published author, an international poet (in Whose Who in the Society of International Poets). I have 4 books already written and writing is my passion. I was told FORGET THE BOOK! Do you think I need to give up my dream or is it possible for me to succeed with my natural, God-given passion? I respect your advice because I feel I have come to know you over these past 7 months.
Thanks for reaching out to those of us who need your help so desperately. I’m sure the Spirit has led you thus far and will guide you as you plan for us.

      Eric,

Thank You. This sounds exactly like what many of us need…
step-by-step instructions for beginners and technophobics like me.

Your step-by-step instructions for the Instant Adsense Templates
confused the hell out of me. For me, it did not seem to flow
step-by-step and to this day, I am still confused by it.

Thank goodness there is a forum this time where we can
ask questions about things that are not clear and get answers.

Thanks for taking the time to really help out those of us who are struggling.

I am looking forward to getting started.

It took me a year or so to figure out how to make money on the internet, and then about another 4 years to figure out how to make serious money. But I think you can really cut down your learning curve by absorbing the information I’m giving. If I were to start from scratch today, with only the knowledge in my head, I would see results within a week.

Mary Kathryn – yes I believe it is absolutely possible to succeed with your God-given passion. But keep in mind that success does not necessarily equal money. God may have other reason for you writing those books… but by all means don’t forget them. Remember Colonel Sanders, who at the age of 65 was broke and decided to sell his chicken recipe. He drove around and received 1009 rejections before the first KFC franchise was born. Here is a blog where I found the story:

      Hi Eric,

I posted a comment earlier to thank you and I have read some of the other comments. I see you recommend LifeDomains to register domains at. But it is difficult to find a registrar outside The Netherlands who will register a .nl domain for the price I pay overhere. I just registered a domainname for myself in The Netherlands and I paid $ 40 for a period of ten years! That is only $ 4 a year!!
When I take a hosting reseller plan at Hostgator I can register domainnames thru them at Enom with a Enom reseller acoount which will cost me nothing except that I have to keep a positive balance of about $ 100 but then I wil pay $ 19,95 for each . nl domain I register per year! In your ebook about hosting you state that you have to get a .com. But that refers to businesses in the US mainly in my opinion, in The Netherlands you have to have a .nl domain or else you won’t be taken seriously. You can get a .com as a secondary domain but you have to have a .nl as your main domain!! Do you have any tips about where to register .nl domains outside The Netherlands for abut the same pricing they have overhere??

      Greeting from Erik

Hello Eric. I echo every “Thank You” that all the others have sent your way. My appreciation of you is this: your ability to remain humble in the face of greatness and exhaulted status. Most allow this to move rapidly to their heads, never stopping at their hearts. So, my Kudos to you for that!
My question: I have set up a blog, basic, no frills yet, and acquired a domain via godaddy. I was “gifted” via a friend — two rather nice affiliate programs, and want to upload them to my blog, perhaps begin some traffic, resulting in sales. If I wanted to do that today, how would I make those pages for those Affiliates available for purchase?
Am I skipping forward here? 🙂 Thanks again, and my partner is completely thrilled with you as well. Blessings, Dar

Erik- I do not know where the best place might be to register a .nl domain, but if you’re getting them for $4/year that’s great! You should be able to keep them with your current registrar and host them anywhere just by changing the DNS (this will be in a future lesson). If you’re planning on doing business mainly within your country then I would think a .nl domain would be best, but if you’re planning on doing business with the world, then I think a .com is best. And you could register both a .nl and a .com and park one on top of the other.

Outlook/ Outlook Express are mail client programs where if you’ve your domain name with web/ mail hosting, you can configure them to get your emails.
