LESSON #10: Online Business Terms Defined

By | July 10, 2008

You may have noticed that the world of internet marketing has a language of it’s own, full of words that you might not be familiar with.

Since I’m going to be using those words throughout the lessons, it’s important that you have some understanding of what they mean, or at least a resource where you can find accurate definitions.

So today I’m simply going to cover the terms. More specifically, I’m going to cover 247 words that are used in the online business world…

(Watch this video…)

Dear Eric,I thankyou for your qaulity straight forword honest assistance to all of us Newbies.
You must be the only person who nows all about what you speak about and yet you still do not call yourself to be a Guru.Personally I think that you are the only ONE.I was lucky to save the first lesson then the rest after I had decided that you spoke the truth.I have been conned by some,so I have waited and saved your lessons untill they come to a close finish, so that I may then put them into practise in a m anaged manner.Hopefully I will then make some money rather than pay it out via internet.
Being a late starter I hope to send you good news regards your teaching. My apologises for not sending my thanks to you earlier.I was a Sceptic & will not change untill the internet pays me for a change. At present I have a website with OHN.Do you know about this group?
What chances have I there? Kind Regards,
    Ronald G. Sellars.

    Thanks for the input.

The timing of the offer had nothing to do with you being early in the stage of your education. It was a product that I had planned on launching for a long time.

As I’ve said many times… remember my caveat: Don’t buy stuff UNLESS you know what you’re going to do with it.

I buy PLR opportunities all the time, because I know how to use them.

Likewise, I recommend that others following my business model do the same.

But if you’re a newbie and you’re either not comfortable with the opportunity or you just don’t yet know how you’re going to use it… by all all means… don’t buy it.

I have no way of knowing exactly where every one of my subscribers is at in their business building process. When I advertise a product, I advertise it to everyone across the board. It is up to you to make a good decision for your business, and in some of the early lessons I have done my best to help give some guidelines regarding that decision making process.

Also I never said I wasn’t going to try to sell you anything. I provide a lot of free information, but I also make money by selling information.

As a teacher of information marketing, it only makes sense for me to practice what I preach 🙂

Eric, I did ask you to update me on the current scams if you dont mind to help me be an informed consumer? I searched you out on the internet and discovered your Push Button Marketing to automate the business I may start soon. Now, with all the shortcuts talked about therein, do I still have to know the 247 words which seems to be a difficult langueage? Also I have been off the screen for a week and now I know why the 8th Lesson recommended a lap top. Thanks Eric for your lessons the 10th of which I hqave just completed

I am not able to stay up to date on all the latest scams, but I did cover some principles for avoiding scams here:

LESSON #5: How to Avoid Scams

As far as needing to know the vocabulary… it’s not necessary that you memorize all of them, but the more familiar you can become with those terms the more comfortable you will be as you move forward and learn more about internet marketing.

Thanks for the amazing info. I am what you would consider a newbie in online business cuz I never made a dime! But I know alot of things. The question is. Can you accelerate these lessons or have them available so that someone can go on their own pace? If I get one lesson a day I’ll be online around Christmas time.. j/k.. lol
Thanks for a total education on getting online and making money..

    Hi Eric,
    here’s my Vision for internet-activities

sell my ideas and visions concerning politics and mankind
and by earning as much money as possible in the process,
at least enough to more comfortly realize my travel desires (to live a good life I now have enough without additional work)

create a new political german party (die Real Partei)
that presents a real alternative to vote for
as compared with the established, debt-addicted, unable “polit-mafia”-parties

    create:
    – an idea-site with background ideas
    – a “party-site”: to bring forward and build that party
    – a personal development site implementing my love and interesting experiences in this area as well as my ideas about what can be known and what explanations are illusions… including my ideas about religions.

Write my first book (of the presently 2.5 I have in mind) and promote and sell it, probably mainly via amazon (?)
You make a very good impression upon me
    thanks for these infos!

I think most of the software I’ve sold will continue to be relevant for quite awhile. I can’t make any guarantees that anything won’t get outdated. But in these lessons I am trying my best to focus on principles and strategies that will last a long time. It’s always a risk, and it’s part of the nature of doing business on this Internet, so it’s simply a risk that you have to accept. But you can try to avoid becoming outdated by focusing on “evergreen” niches, and sticking to the tried and true principles of marketing (like list-building) rather than flash-in-the-pan tactics.

Thank you Eric for putting all this information at our fingertips. Wow, is it ever helpful. Amazing how important it is to know the language, and how overwhelming it is when one is just starting an online business and doesn’t understand what the support people are even saying when one asks for help. Now I can look it up. Thanks again.

I agree. I made that mistake. I bought a few things at first. I all of a sudden was e-mailed with all these opportunities and so I purchased. After realizing that there were many different ways to make money on line I canceled what I knew I wouldn’t enjoy and stuck with what rang true to me. Now sticking with one plan for at least a year. I really respect your knowledge, philosophy, honesty and integrity. Thank you for the example.

You’ve said that the cache is high speed memory, and that accessing the hard drive is much faster than accessing a server; so essentially the cache “increases the time it takes to view frequently visited pages.”

    …er…reduces it, no?

Hi Eric, I know many of the terms you mentioned, but I will look over the other definitions for a better understanding of them. I am surprised that the term “mp3”, and “WAV” were not in the lineup, they refer to the way audio is recorded in the digital realm. I look forward to the next lesson!!…Friends, Lloyd.

    Eric,
I tried SBI a few months ago. You have to write or create 30 pages, yes THIRTY pages of original content, BEFORE you are able to monetize ANY of the pages in your website. You are not told this BEFORE signing up and paying for SBI. Now you know. I learned it the hard way.

What’s the best way to learn XSite Pro2? Tutorials, books, videos? It is loaded and packed with so many features I don’t know what to do first!

Hi Deborah, I do recommend XSitePro as I think it’s one of the easiest web authoring programs for people who don’t know HTML. But there are a lot of features, which can make it a bit tricky at first.

However, you do not need to buy any upsells to use it. You just might need to take some more time to study and learn how to use it. There are comprehensive user manuals included with the software that you purchased. You can also find an online version here.

You may also find this demo video to be helpful. Additionally, many 3rd party affiliates and teachers have created various XSitePro tutorials that you can find on Youtube or if you search on Google.

Also be sure to check out the “technical” forum on XSitePro’s messageboard.

Lastly, XSitePro does offer this in their guarantee:

“Pledge #2 If you have ANY trouble building your web site, or need any advice, we will be happy to help you for a full ninety days – at absolutely no cost to you. No premium phone lines, no expensive support contracts to take out – just good old fashioned help. We want you to be overjoyed with your purchase, so you can rest assured that we will always be there to help you, which is more than you can say for the big guys who are happy to sell you high priced software and then leave you stranded when you run into a problem.”

    Eric,
In this lesson on the definition for Cache, go to the 2nd paragraph “the cache increases…” I believe you meant “DECREASES”.
Also, I am using firefox and the link to download the free book on “social bookmarking for free traffic” did nothing.
Your one a day Lesson & Action format is simply Wonderful. Thank you.

They are easy for newbies to edit and reasonably priced. I hope this may help someone. 🙂 Thanks warm fuzzies to all us newbies.

    Hi Eric,
Again a very nicely put together lesson plan. I am enjoying your lessons and the planning that has gone into them. It is great to see a young man put the enthusiasm and feelings you put into your lessons and putting so much of you out front and asking nothing in return. I am sorry to say this but it saddens me to have a person working so hard to accomplish good for a group of people and then to have a windbag out there trying to impress all with the spouting of their background and then coming up with the half assed slap at a man who is providing a fine service to his fellow man and having to listen to a groundless complaint. I have to applaud you on the fine way you explained the thought and background behind your lesson. I will say I also was one that purchased the offering, I have it, it is something that I feel will do me a very fine piece of business when I get it operational. I am only sorry I did not move on the second portion of the sale.So sad my bad. Please keep up the great work and please put that type of person out of your mind. He apparently does not know a good thing if it came up and bit him on the rear end.
    Again my sincere thanks
    Bob
