LESSON #11: Who Should You Listen To?

By | July 12, 2008

I’m glad that you’ve chosen to learn from me, but chances are good that you’ve noticed a lot of voices vying for your attention. There are a lot of so-called experts out there trying to tell you how to build your business.

The question is: WHO should you listen to and who should you trust?

(Watch this video…)

Join my coaching club

Main points:

1) Learn from real experts, not wannabe’s

2) Look for proof and testimonials (but don’t base your opinion solely on it)

3) Listen to someone you can understand

4) Listen to someone who has failed at times

5) Listen to someone who’s not afraid to tell you what you don’t want to hear

6) Don’t write someone off just because they’re trying to make money off of you (unless they are too manipulative)

7) Trust someone and follow them, but not blindly

8] Learn how to weigh the facts (this is the most important key)

Action steps:

1) Find someone to listen to.

Find someone who has done what you want to do. Someone who is a real expert and not a wannabe. Someone you can trust. That person might be me, or it might be someone else. The important thing is that you find someone you can trust, and then follow them with open eyes and a discerning heart.

We need to cover one final prerequisite before we develop the vision and plan for your online business. It’s sort of a missing piece, and I’ll be revealing it in the next lesson.
As always, you are welcome to post your questions and comments below.

Have a great day!

At one time I heard “to emulate is to become” (conditioning) doesn’t matter positive or negative, so be careful who you hang out with. Keep up the great work, it is really refreshing to find someone with your ability and honesty. Now it is our time to put your information to work, act on it. Thanks

I hear what you are saying because I have been there. I am a recovering “scamee”, who has fallen and come to the same conclusions as points 1,2,3,5,6.

2011 will see me focus and practice points 7 and 8. I can’t wait to see what I become when I have learned these 2 skills. Maybe I will meet more peers who may fit point 4.

I have 2 projects to keep me busy. My challenge is just to focus on these even though I need to cash in on some affiliate marketing income.

The good news is that by buying much less or not, my expenses will be greatly reduced. I started in 2009 and feel this year will bring me some profit, even if only in small amounts.

A question that some newbies like myself may have – Is there a site or an agency that you can report and provide evidence so others become aware early of unscrupulous marketers?
If not, I would like to partner with you or others in creating a website offering a free alert service to all online internet marketers.
My losses exceeded $5K with a company that I would like to help put out of business.

    HAPPY New Year

Yes there are plenty of sites and agencies where you can report scams and review products.

If you feel compelled to share your negative experience about a product or service, there are plenty of review sites such as epinions.com, and imreportcard.com where you can post reviews.

If it’s a scam (and I mean truly a scam. You should not report something as a scam unless it is actual fraud), then there are places you can report it such as sites like ripoffreport, independent agencies such as BBB, and government agencies such as the FTC, and local law enforcement agencies.

    Thank you, Eric

I agree with you that you must be careful about declaring something as a scam. Unfortunately, i did some due diligence but I did not submit the contracts to a lawyer.

With the review sites you provided, I will search for others who may have shared a similar experience. I know of 2 parties that have pursued their cases through the LAPD.

However, I think the best course is to learn from the experience, only buy what fits your business plan, and to follow successful people like yourself. That is why I enjoyed the bonus lesson you gave your readers at Christmas.

Back to the next lesson … have a great day

I have really enjoyed your tutorial to this point. I am on lesson #9 and have learned plenty. I have just started a website to sell from but still have not made a sale. I am forced to make this work, I suffered a stroke last year and I am unable to return to work. The GOV. doesn’t help in any way so I am on my own. Thus far I have read hundreds of e-mails telling me how to get rich quick. I can’t believe the brainless methods these guys try to push. I have had several businesses in the past but this is the first of the on line nature. I don’t have a problem differentiating between some of the B.S. and the truth, although some of them are very good at marketing. All in all I find your course excellent very rich in detail and your knowledge is unsurpassable Please keep up the excellent lessons.

    Thank you,
    Wayne…

Hi Eric, i am 64 years old, study real estate from a-z, but didn’t do much business, because have no money and afraid to loose my house, i like to count only on myself and do online business, i followed some affiliates i even bought Steve Iser’s course, followed his edvise got a website, installed some softwares and bought “10 done for you fully automatic deals”, he offered, but because i don’t know computer well i don’t know how to use it, his video didn’t give me much clue. my question is what is fully automatic? What i have to do? Shall i return it or i can use it when i finish learning from you, i like the way you explaining, thank you.

Hi Julia, I do not know Steve Iser personally, and I will not vouch for his products. But from what I’ve seen and heard about him, he’s a good marketer and you can probably learn a lot from him. But I will tell you… the only way to create a truly automatic income stream is to build it yourself, or buy an established business with income. You can certainly buy tools and shortcuts, but no one will sell you a truly automatic income stream that doesn’t require work on your part. My advice is to keep learning, and choose ONE business model to follow (whether it by mine or Steve’s or someone else’s), and stick with it until you succeed or fail.

The great eight entry points I really to know. Three of them I really like and made my eyes opened are:

    5) Listen to someone who’s not afraid to tell you what you don’t want to hear

    6) Don’t write someone off just because they’re trying to make money off of you (unless they are too manipulative)

    7) Trust someone and follow them, but not blindly

Yes, I think it’s time for me to learn how to learn. Only focus in it.

Once more, thanks for the enlightenment!

    Hi Eric
You are not a new name to me. I have been reading your mail for years now. For 2 years I tried to succeed. I made my own sites but unfortunately due to being SCAMMED several times I was advised to remove them.
I always had it in my mined to try again once I had paid off the debts from buying the courses and ebooks etc, but your email came before I did that so I decided to join. I was enjoying listening to you but after the latest microsoft updates many of my drivers disappeared. I am still trying to get some that I bought, back.
After taking my sites down I kept just a handful of names and know they are ones you recommend. There is one well down your list whom I would not entertain again. It cost me a huge sum and no benefit. When I see the name I shake my head.
When I get sound back I will go over your videos again.
Thank you for ‘hype free’ lessons.

great info Eric, I’m enjoying following your tips. I’m wondering if there is anyone out there thats following as well that’s in the Bloomington,Indiana area or close to that vicinity. would’nt mind having someone else to bounce ideas back and forth with. Or if there is anyone in this area that is already seeing some of the success in this field that I can bounce ideas off of. Again thanks so much for your info Eric. I look forward to each video.

Could you suggest a website that is designed to promote a product in an affiliate program.

My current website was designed to promote a product using a drop shipper and I want to look at an affiliate product website to see how to change mine.

    Thanks,

    Don

There are many different ways to use websites to promote products as an affiliate. One option would be a site that looks like a e-commerce site, such as the one you have now. The only difference is that you would use affiliate links instead of buy links and a shopping cart.

A better option would probably be to figure out how to provide quality content that will attract your target market, and integrate that content with list-building and promotions for the affiliate product(s).

A WordPress site (like mine) is well suited for this, and I cover it in more depth in these lessons.
