It’s time to begin focusing on your personal situation, and to turn our attention to your future business…

Main points:
Without vision, your business probably won’t succeed.
I describe vision as being able to “see” a clear picture of your fulfilled goals in your mind.
It’s like the box cover of a difficult puzzle…
You must begin with the end in mind.
Almost every success in my life has come AFTER having a vision for it. (For example, when I won the state championship, and every time I launch a product)
The successful business owners that I’ve known ALL have vision.
It’s kind of like looking at the world from 30,000 feet. You see the big picture, and not the problems.
If you lose sight of your vision, you lose hope. And if you lose hope, it’s game over.
As we progress in the lessons, we’ll keep moving forward step by step, but if you don’t start by getting a vision, further efforts could be somewhat futile.
If you set your target too low, you may hit it, but there is almost no chance that you will exceed it. On the other hand, if you set your target too high, you may fail, but you will be further along than the “low” target. Therefore it’s better to set your vision higher.
One of the biggest things I see holding people back is a “victim mentality”.
“Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop this picture. Never think of yourself as failing; never doubt the reality of the mental image. That is most dangerous, for the mind always tries to complete what it pictures. So always picture ‘success’ no matter how badly things seem to be going at the moment.” – Norman Vincent Peale
Many of us have taken on a “just get by” mentality.
The size of your vision will dictate the size of the result.
YOU are valuable. Don’t sell yourself short.

I want you to take a moment to tell me your vision for your business. The vision can involve other areas of your life too, but since we’re working on building your business, it should be focused on your business.
It’s important to write your vision down, so go ahead and post it in the comments below. This is YOUR vision, and there is NO wrong answer.
Focus on the big picture. Don’t worry about the details of how you will get there. We’ll worry about that stuff when we learn about goal setting and business plans, and I’ll be talking about those things in the next lesson.

Hi Eric, Like a lot of people I’m catching up on this series of invaluable information, I hope your blessing are hundred fold for sharing your wisdom.
My vision is this.
I make music, i sing write play and produce, meaning i own my own studio and can do everything myself to create songs.
I want to make music and upload it to the internet and create a following across the world, travel across the world to do shows and appearances. I also want to run as passively as possible successful products and earn a great income which is ongoing apart from the success of my music. I would love to have real and positive effects on some of the madness in the world such as third world debt, teaching children properly, social care. I’d like to be able to find people who are passionate about these areas of life and support them to make real changes even in the lives of a few but preferably many. What is my vision? That is a good question. I have lived all my life not really accomplishing the goals I set out for. And until now that was fine because I was happy with or without money. I had no one but myself to take care of.

Yes I have a vision it started may be a year or two ago, at the time I noticed that I have been slowing down with my motorskills physical skills and in short overall I don’t have any longer that physical power I had when I was twenty. I thought one day I have done so much and enjoyed. All of what I have done was made physically building something repairing or else, now my vision is to put that knowledge to work and bring something to good use to poeple and that is either selling my know how or someone elses know how that I can relate to, being of value and besides that, making some money. I picture myself sitting on my porch, looking out at the truly great vista that living where and as I do has provided me with. My vision is to create my own online home-based business where I will be debt-free and netting an average of over one million dollars per year. My only regret is that I did not have the courage to start this sooner. I find that one must have the courage to free oneself from one’s past and look to the future. My vision is to have a successful online business using the websites and affiliates that I’ve purchased. My goal is to spend more time with friends and relatives. However, my greatest goal is to make enough money to contribute to the well-being of mentally ill people. I am presently donating money monthly to National Advocates for the Mentally Ill, and hope to increase this. Let me say ‘Thank you’ for the great job you’re doing here. You are so right about the wealth of information on the internet about marketing on the internet–and about how it is so disconnected. Great advice everywhere in bits and pieces… but not put together as an entire program easily accessible by newbies all in one place, for free, and without the pretence of pulling you in simply to purchase and affiliate the products of those who do present an outline. Many times, those offerings are just the tip of the funnel. The more they pull you in, the more levels of the funnel they want you to ‘buy’ into.
I am one of those who has been trying to do this for years. At one time I was developing great relationships and I still receive a small affiliate check annually from the StomperNet gang. But, I was too nice and offered to do work in trade for a ‘future’ chance to earn from a friends profits–which took all of my time and ended in no money when I needed it. Another problem I faced (as a marketer with many experiences to share) is that when I was ready to go public with a campaign– I would freeze. It was like some kind of overwhelming fear I was facing. And, not that it was their responsibility to reach out to me, none of the gurus had the time to help me with that. I gave up for about a year or two (because I lost my internet service due to a complete lack of money and because I was buying into everything the gurus were selling) So, everyone, please listen to Eric when he says not to buy everything.
Well, I am back again and now onto my vision. This time I think I will actually take the time to develop a great vision and a business plan. Here are some of the components of my vision I am able to see immediately:
I want to be making enough auto-pilot money each year to be able to travel whenever and wherever I want to take my family.
I see myself investing time and money into doing things both myself and my daughters love to do–like camping, hiking, boating, lake-trips, ocean-trips, and more–you know, actually enjoying life instead of just surviving.
I envision myself being healthy, happy and actually engaging in life… eating a rich, raw healthy diet — giving me energy to heal myself and to play—without concern about cost of food and/or supplements.
And then there are the causes I care about. When I make great money, I will donate funds to help teen parents, to help fight diseases (such as Fibromyalgia, which I have), to help fight poverty right here in America, to help fight for medical and dental care for those at poverty levels who can’t get it, to help fight homelessness and starvation in our communities, to help fight drug and alcohol addiction, etc.
I want my personal experience with recovering from Fibromyalgia through diet alone to get to and benefit as many sufferers as possible–via my blogs online.
I see my Let’s Explore the World site becoming the go to site for all children and parents — as well as researchers.
I want my youngest daughter who is still at home to know something other than poverty, though I think she has probably learned valuable lessons from it. I want her to experience so much more from life.
I know my sites revolving around successful women will reach out to and help many women as they are coming into their careers.
And finally, there is a dream I have had since 1997. People may think I am absolutely bonkers (crazy)…but here goes. I have wanted to build a theme park for adults who enjoy challenges that mimics an Army Boot camp (rope climbing, rope descending, maneuvering through a simulated battle field doing a snake crawl, and many more fun challenges and activities). I would love to be rich enough to pull that off some day. It would take massive amounts of money just to cover legal and insurance costs for such a facility. And, in my opinion–a little self-confidence boost can go a long way in growing who you are as a person. I know there are many who would not like my idea at all, but there are many more, like me, who enjoyed those challenges thoroughly and wish they could go back. Or–maybe I am just flat out crazy. LOL Of-course part of the proceeds could go toward my favorite ’causes’ too.
My vision for a business is one that will net over $1,000,000 dollars per year. A business I can be proud to tell others about. I want to say yes, I did that and you can too. I want to teach others how to start and succeed in a business so they too can find financial freedom. Earning over a million dollars a year will certainly give me financial freedom and let me live a lifestyle only dreamed about now. I want to travel, entertain, visit family and friends wherever they live. I want to give back to those who have helped me through many difficult times in my life. I have planted in my mind and determined that I will use the mornings six days out of the week for learning to market online. Love this info you’re providing. I have to admit that this IS my mindset, yet has been a slight road block in itself. But, my basic vision is to get to 3K a month w/in 3 months and up to 200K by the time I hit a year. Eventually I plan on hitting the HUGE numbers of getting to the millions. I keep being told that I’m being unrealistic, but i don’t believe I am.

Hi Eric, I have known for a long time that I need a clear vision to see where I want to go in life, but I have been procrastinating. I also keep jumping from guru to guru buying a bunch of stuff, wasting money on things that I had forgotten I had signed up for. I believe with your training, I will be able to succeed in Internet/Affiliate Marketing. I definitely have the desire, and the determination. I want to be able to provide him with a nice house to live in for a long time, I want to be able to take him to school everyday, pick him up from school everyday, I want to be able to take him wherever he wants to go, without having to worry about having to go to work and not be able to do things with him.
I also envision myself married to a beautiful. kind. caring, compassionate woman, having some more kids, living in a nice house, and being able to do the things that we like to do. I want to have enough money to buy my Mom her own house in Colorado, so she can be closer to her grandson. We both live in Pa, but that is my vision for my business and family life. Oh, I forgot one very important aspect of my vision. I also want to donate to multiple charities, like, CBN, Autism foundation, feed the children, ASPCA, any type of animal cruelty foundations. Like I said above, If I can earn at least 10k per month to start, I know that I will be able to achieve my vision, so my next step is to write it down on paper.

In June 2011 my wife will have the option to work or not. In December 2016 I will be financially independent enough to semi-retire or retire if I choose. To enable that I will operate a highly profitable on-line business that supports all normal household expenditures as well as vacations, retirement investments, and one time large expenditures such as a dream shop, new kitchen and wrap-around covered porch, etc. As 9 is greater than 10 one tenth of the gross income from this business and all investments will be put to Gods’ work, the remaining portion will support all other expenditures.

i am not going to enclude amounts in my vision, but i see myself starting online buisness , where i will resell products. Aftre some time i will use the money to open the real store. I will mangae two buisness and employ people to help me.
i have the vision who i am going to be in five years time, then i have a goals to achieve for every year. To achieve one years goal, i have a goal for every day, week, month.

My new vision is to become a successful business owner online and offline within the next 12-18 months. I see my current situation improving 10 folds as I look within myself to see the ends results. I had set a goal in 2008 to make $120k and I am still trying to reach that goal but with more clarity. I would ultimately like to show my family, friends, coworkers and go into the communities to share and help others as an example of my own life, what can be achieved with a vision of online business owner. I must lead the way first. This is the time for me.
I was tempted to look at other peoples visions before writing mine, but I want this to start from inside me, not externally. We can, however learn from others so I will likely adapt my vision after reading other peoples.
I feel that I am a strong researcher; that I can find answers if I do not know them. I would like for my business to be an online source that a particular group of people turn to, and pay for, to solve a very specific problem that is quite common and difficult to solve (sorry, I am hesitant to mention what that is as I do not want to create competition for my business). Solving this problem for people will ultimately win them a reward that is much more valuable than the price of my company’s solutions that were found. Although my business’s main goal (like all businesses) is to make money, I will be changing many people’s lives for the better.
Originally my goal was for my business to supplement my current career and allow me to make an extra few thousand dollars per month, enabling my family a secure future and the ability to travel. Now I understand that that is too low. My goal now is to make $300,000 profit annually by the third year of operation, and continuing with my current career will be by choice, not necessity.
