LESSON #13: Getting a Vision for Your Business

By | July 16, 2008

Up until this point, we’ve essentially been covering the requirements and prerequisite knowledge necessary to increase your chances of building a successful online business.

Today marks a turning point.

It’s time to begin focusing on your personal situation, and to turn our attention to your future business…

Main points:

  • Without vision, your business probably won’t succeed.

  • I describe vision as being able to “see” a clear picture of your fulfilled goals in your mind.

  • It’s like the box cover of a difficult puzzle…

  • You must begin with the end in mind.

  • Almost every success in my life has come AFTER having a vision for it. (For example, when I won the state championship, and every time I launch a product)

  • The successful business owners that I’ve known ALL have vision.

  • It’s kind of like looking at the world from 30,000 feet. You see the big picture, and not the problems.

  • If you lose sight of your vision, you lose hope. And if you lose hope, it’s game over.

  • As we progress in the lessons, we’ll keep moving forward step by step, but if you don’t start by getting a vision, further efforts could be somewhat futile.

  • If you set your target too low, you may hit it, but there is almost no chance that you will exceed it. On the other hand, if you set your target too high, you may fail, but you will be further along than the “low” target. Therefore it’s better to set your vision higher.

  • One of the biggest things I see holding people back is a “victim mentality”.

  • “Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop this picture. Never think of yourself as failing; never doubt the reality of the mental image. That is most dangerous, for the mind always tries to complete what it pictures. So always picture ‘success’ no matter how badly things seem to be going at the moment.” – Norman Vincent Peale

  • Many of us have taken on a “just get by” mentality.

  • The size of your vision will dictate the size of the result.

  • YOU are valuable. Don’t sell yourself short.

  • Here’s my “disclaimer” that I forgot to include in the video…. “The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” (Prov. 16:9)

    Action steps:

I want you to take a moment to tell me your vision for your business. The vision can involve other areas of your life too, but since we’re working on building your business, it should be focused on your business.

It’s important to write your vision down, so go ahead and post it in the comments below. This is YOUR vision, and there is NO wrong answer.

Focus on the big picture. Don’t worry about the details of how you will get there. We’ll worry about that stuff when we learn about goal setting and business plans, and I’ll be talking about those things in the next lesson.

As always, you are welcome to post your questions and comments below.

    Have a great day!

I keep having in mind a vision of building a business that brings in $10,000 a month within two years and then scaling it up. I know that a lot of marketers make a lot more money, but even $10,000 a month is a radical change in my thinking.
I want to be able to give.

I am 71 years old and have been interested in e-commerce for about ten years. It is late in my life, but I want to be able to leave my children a nest egg that they were not expecting. I know it is possible to make millions online and I know I have the vision and steadfast work ethics to accomplish it so long as I find a viable, honest teacher to emulate.

My vision is to produce an online business that will not only support me, but will also allow me to provide full support for at least one missionary (family) in each of the world’s geo-political nation states… and in a way that will outlast my short life. I want to accomplish this with a strategy that requires no more than 20 hours of business-related activity per week on my part. And I would like to reach this threshold within the next five to seven years, at the latest. In addition, I want to concentrate my business efforts on generating and marketing high-quality, info-products aimed at serving the global Christian community.

My vision is to create a successful online business in the self help/ health niche that generates a passive income of £10000 per month in order to give my family all they deserve. I want this to increase month on month so we can live by the beach in Spain that will significantly give us all an healthy lifestyle. It is important to share issues of health to the wider world and that is my goal to share for the better. I am no longer working for someone else, so have the time to enhance my vision and pass it on to my daughter who understands and shares my own vision.

My vision is to develop an email marketing business called http://www.HomeBizEzine.com to share with people, “Simple, Easy-To-Understand Basics That Help Ensure Predictable and Profitable Results” through a home business. This vision came out of a greater vision to build a Blog called, http://www.EmergencyRetirementPlanning.com.

I am in the lead edge of the baby boom generation and a lot of people 50 years and older haven’t put away enough money to provide for themselves at a level they envisioned in their retirement years for a variety of reasons.

While I don’t have the expertise to accomplish all of this on my own I have realized that all the resources I need to develop these into systems that can help people through this critical part of their lives is out there…and that with consistency, persistence, time and knowledge gathering on my part, it will indeed become a reality, a source of HOPE. Hi everybody,

My vision is to have a successful Internet Marketing Online Business.

As I’m going to be retired from my full-time job in 22 months, my goal is to build a successful business that I could bequeath to my 13-year-old boy to ensure him a prosperous future.

My goal is also to give my spouse freedom because she has to work for another 15 years to get a decent retirement.

As I have been doing for several years, I would like to help people. It is also gratifying to help your neighbors reach their dreams of becoming prosperous entrepreneurs.

To achieve these goals, I seek to earn at least $ 10,000 per month from multiple streams of income from several different niches.

      To a Better Living…

My vision is to have a successful online business consisting of several websites that promote information products that increase the quality of people’s lives. I will have personally written some of the products and be an affiliate for others that I have found helpful to me. I intend to earn $1 million a year doing this as I travel the country and the world gaining experience in life and continuing to pursue Truth in all of the fields that interest me.

Short term goals would be to first and foremost learn as much as I can about marketing and get up and running on the internet. I want to just be able to see a profit then generate enough income to replace my wife’s and my jobs. We need to earn $12000 a month to do that.

Once I have achieved these basic goals, my long-term goals would be to generate enough money to upgrade our cars and home, buy back our time, become debt free, help others, and take dream vacations, all while glorifying the Lord. I want to be able to develop financial freedom and never worry about money or where it’s going to come from again.

This way I can truly leave a legacy for my children that they can be proud of.

Applying the invaluable principles and examples shared in this lesson, broadly it would be….

      My Vision:
      1. Successfully master the online business to rake in an annual income of $1,000,000
      2. Have financial freedom and independence
      3. Spend quality time with my family and travel the world
      4. Give back to the community, including the larger family and pay it forward. Passionate about mentoring and volunteering and truly want that freedom to pursue with no encumbrances and limitations.

I would also like to take this opportunity to comment on the tips thus far….It has been really amazing, invaluable and insightful especially for a newbie like me. I particularly like the way you gently nudge us to think outside of our comfort zone and broaden our knowledge. You impart so much of the practical wisdom in bite size portions, with focus, integrity and in a very clear, concise and discernible way. The action steps are also very doable and help in giving structure and organization to the learning and building process. Thank you so much and God bless!

      Vision!

learning how to build a 100,000 plus >> targeted email list.
learning how to market to that list through email marketing.
learning how to automate the process as much as possible.
      making $1000./week minimum
      scaling that to over $5,000/week

once I learn how to accomplish this,
      my goal is simple:

      1) to be able to make a good living using my laptop and the internet.
      2) to be able to teach what I have been able to accomplish to my family, friends & anyone who wants the same thing.

My vision begins with creating an Internet application development business that focuses on helping small but growing businesses automate their processes. I plan to start with warehouse management and shipping applications and ebooks, as these are areas in which I have particular expertise. I live in a college town, and hope to hire several students as interns, and help them develop solid marketable skills. When the company grows to the point where it can support about eight employees, I would like to continue as CEO, but turn over the day-to-day operations to someone who can manage it better than I, and then focus my attention on building a second business. This one will be based in a small Idaho town where I used to live, where employment opportunities are sorely needed. This business would focus on information and resources for the real estate development industry. Eventually I would like to own several businesses, each dedicated to serving the unique needs of a different community. I expect to earn enough revenue to support me and my wife comfortably in our retirement, but more importantly, to improve the lot of as many individuals, businesses, and communities as possible.

Writing vision and goal and goal setting all are to train the mind and it is supposed to work that is what neurologists say. but it works for few and doesn’t work for others or many. I was a successful young Turk at 30. I wrote an article in a Urdu lnaguge magazine that a man must set himself to a place, point and position of what he want to be. It was appreciated by many and I was personally congratulated by many. but it so happened. I still don’t know what happened. I was on the road within a year and remained there for 7 years. The picked up from scratch in another field and struggled to reach earning a good monthly salary. I was a successful man until February 2016. and within 18 months have lost all my savings trying to earn just enough to survive. Wherever,i put my money I lost. I am not a fool in my books but friends and foes consider me one.Few are laughing others are surprised. There is a time when nothing works. No matter how goal and goal setting is done.
I am sorry , I am not opposing you but I am 65 in good health physically and mentally and trying my best nothing works. I watch video ,read pdf but can not do what is needed for an Internet marketer. I purchased many programs ,softwares but nothing could be set to earn.
I say I am poor in computer basics ,don’t know how to build an squeeze page, down load button and buy button with payment gateway. I tried to out source but never succeeded. I gave my eBook for picture editing to two people one on fiver another through a friend ,the both swallowed my book never returned and instead of $ 5 asking for in multiples.
I am recently following to 3 such Gurus whom I feel have plenty of worth but unable to zero on to one. You are one of them. Please help .Regards.

      I’m a retired person of 70.

In my years on earth I’ve been a teacher, marketer, trainer, writer and coach.

In these roles, I have known the joy of helping others & the sense of purpose that it creates.

It was fun and full of adventure, and I miss it.

So even though I’m retired and married and we have an IRA, I feel the need to have that joy of helping others and the sense of purpose it brings. I also need to help my husband supplement our IRA so that we will be more financially secure.

Thus my vision can be stated in two parts: 1)feel purpose and 2)earn bucks doing it.

I visualize my business bringing iin 10-15K a month by helping others. If it miraculously brings in more…well, great!

I’ve been reading and studying the internet for over 2 years.

It’s time to stop reflecting and start making it happen!

I think that I am a good list builder, over 3000 in a year and growing. I have several lead magnets that are attracting people and I am part owner of 2 good safelists. I have a site with a blog where I publish usually weekly. So I think I have many basic skills. I just need to be better at marketing and sales and choosing the right offers that will help people as well as own my own products.

Here is the big picture I see of my online business. It is a lifestyle business because

      (a) It covers 4 areas, all representing facets of me and how I can help others in matters concerning chronic conditions, preventative health, Catholic faith and bespoke social gatherings. My aim is to have a female impact and so in this business, I predominantly work with women aged 45-55 to help them feel at ease.

      (b) Through it I get to express myself creatively as I’d like in the world and not be tied in to an employer. I work 3 days a week . In this way I can go to my usual outpatient appointments and continue to be actively involved in giving back to family, faith community and wider society. I am big on learning and can continue with that especially on becoming a speaker and writer. I am so excited because, and in the first year the business is set to bring in at least £50,000.

      (c) It also means I get to be, do, have all those things like travel, treat family members, support charitable causes any time

      This or something better.

I have been involved brick and mortal businesses for the 25 years with success and failures. Since 2015 I have been trying to establish myself online, but with little success so far. This will not deter me from my vision.
My vision right now is to have a successful online business centered around helping other business owner to run their businesses more successfully, build the web properties that I have been working on for the past year. I plan to put in a minimum of 30 hours a week and have enough time with my family. I want my wife to work less an even retire in the next 5 years. I want my business to do 5 million dollars a year in the next year or two, and to give back to my community.

I’m the kind of person who works at what I like to do. I like developing websites and marketing, so that’s what I do with most of my leisure time. I’ve been ‘dabbling’ with some online success like this for over 10 years.

My vision requires me to be teaching. I am especially dedicated to helping families– small business owners and hard-working parents with children– who need to break free of low-wage and dead-end jobs. I envision helping hundreds, if not thousands of willing and like-minded individuals reach independence.

I need to leave my own J.O.B. and achieve a level of success and financial independence to gain confidence in myself and impart that level of confidence in others. My initial goal online is to earn $500,000 (or more) in one year, then replicate the same level of success for one small group of people at a time.
