Back in lesson 7, we established that the type of online business model I’m going to be teaching is primarily an information publishing business.
In other words, you’re going to sell your own information product (also known as an infoproduct). But before we can create an infoproduct, we need to choose a topic for it.
(Watch this video…
NOTE: This niche selection process applies to virtually ANY type of online business– not just infoproducts!)
Main points:
1) They think they’re going to be married to it (so they stress out and procrastinate making the choice)
2) They’re afraid it’s going to fail and not be profitable.
(both reasons are basically that they are afraid of choosing the wrong niche)
1) Something you know
2) Something you don’t know
1) Your enthusiasm will help sell it
2) It will be a better product
3) You can relate to your market
– How big is the niche?
– How competitive is the niche?
– How profitable is the niche?
Action step:
1) Brainstorm some topics that you would be interested in turning into a product. Write them down.
Don’t worry about details of the niche market for it yet…we’ll be doing the research in the next lesson.
If you don’t already have some ideas in mind, and don’t know how to start brainstorming, here are some places to look for ideas (starting points)…
1) What’s hot on Ebay (updated each season)
2) Ebay Popular (dynamic popularity rankings)
3) Best sellers on Amazon (updated hourly)
4) Shopping.com Consumer Demand Index (updated every 2 weeks)
5) Most popular goals on 43things (updated daily)
6) Google hot trends (updated throughout the day)
Special Offer:

Hi Eric,
You are truly a man of action. I didn’t expect to receive such a quick reply.
If by chance you will be going to visit ASIA, don’t forget to add in your itinerary to visit my beautiful country, the Philippines.
Again, Thank you.
Hi Eric, The niche I am working on is weight loss. I have a 30+ yr. experience in health related career. I have a doctorate in Natural Health as well. The niche is very large but the online visits are huge so, I feel I can still make a business out of it. The natural aspect is growing. What do you think?
Based on your experience and doctorate, yes I would absolutely stick with that niche and make a business of it. It’s an evergreen niche, and it’s huge. There’s definitely plenty opportunity for you to glean a full time living from it, or turn it into a something even bigger. I know marketers who are making 5-figures a DAY selling health and weight loss related products on Clickbank, and most of them aren’t even health care professionals. You’ve actually got the authority to back up your claims.
As you can see, I’m playing catchup with your lessons, because I have been battling a voracious bug for about a month. I’m better and back!
I have been a published writer and have had my own food and wine consulting business for more than twenty years. I hope I don’t appear immodest, but I know a lot about my subjects and am considered a good writer. (Have a degree in English and an AA from a professional chefs school (16 months training). My challenge is narrowing my focus. My blog (first one) just went live yesterday.
Because we seem to be pretty open here, I will say, due to a illness of many years (full recovery finally), I have gone through most all of my reserves and my retirement funds. I know there is no quick fix, but I’m willing to work hard and can devote as much time as needed to succeed on the internet because I’m responsible for no one but myself.
Your “tips”–really and incredible course–are the BEST! And I’m delighted to be among so many bright and ambitious students. What synergy!
Cheers,
Michelle
I am interested in marketing an info product to show both owners and collectors of old phonograph records and tape recordings on how to convert them into digital formats for both ease of access and save on the original old recordings by not having to play them over and over again each time that they want to hear them…I am also open to some of the evergreen topics as well…Friends, Lloyd
Hi Eric,
My niche is extremely comepetitive and my idea may fail, if it does I will use it as a really cool bonus or another additional product and I’ll tweak it for that particular market. My info product is an e-book about weight loss but I have my own weight loss studio and it is doing well. I have testimonials and before and after pics etc.,exercise videos will be up soon, but I also know it may not work and I must think of something that will hook my audience. But this, if it works is huge. Backend products etc. I also have several ideas that involve sewing and hair styles so all over the place but one thing at a time. Thanks for keeping my feet on the ground with your real advice and clear information
I am fascinated with the energy niche, solar, wind, recycled. I hope it is a good niche. I am only at lesson 20, “choosing a niche,” and I am following your lessons closely. I really appreciate them. I am now pretty much bankrupt from following the wrong ideas in the past, but I am focused.
Just click on her name jack.
I liked your blog Irene.
Hi Eric,
I jumped on your Trading Pro System as my first product a few months back. Here’s my question: When I choose a domain name, does it have to pertain to a certain niche or can I broaden the title? For example, I want to have several websites pertaining to different niches running off one domain name(Trading Pro System, sports, animals, etc.) I am starting with something that is proven, then going into the areas I am passionate about. Also, I ran across a business dealing with the online gaming niche(not online poker). I never thought about that niche until I ran across this. In your opinion, is this a market with potential? I play some online games myself. I’m just wondering if this is an area I can pursue when I become more comfortable. I always welcome your and any other’s feedback.
Karen M.
Hello Karen,
If you want to sell numerous items from one domain, it would be a good idea to build a solid brand. Otherwise, it’s better to devote separate websites to items to secure them in their own niche.
Online gaming is only growing more and more every day!
Thanks Micah,
I browsed later lessons and I see Lesson 23 goes into detail about this question. I will definitely keep the online gaming on the back burners for now. I need to get my feet wet first and figure out that domain name. 🙂
Thank you a lot ,
I am new in the internet but , when iissining to you all the way I feel like an expert thinkers.
Yours
Thomas

Hi Eric. Just to throw in my message of appreciation for your great training program. I am currently working through a number of similar programs and must confess. As far as attention to detail and depth of content, you beat the paid training programs hands down. Thanks again.

Hello Ajee,
Here is the link to the first lesson:
Hello Eric:
[How to find a Niche Market?]
Yeah – this is an interesting “money-making topic”. Actually I see 2 distinct affiliate marketing directions:
1. The Affiliate Program which include building a “profitable affiliate niche” website, where you will make money (in commissions) “selling other peoples’ products”.
2. The Vendor Affiliate Program which entails building a profitable “vendor-based niche website”, where you will make money selling:
a) Your own products, with or without a combination with:
b) Selling other affiliate not-your-own-products.
In regard to which business-option we should develop first, either the a) strategy (other people’s) or the b) strategy (our own) – it has been proven that the “earning-potential” of both options are equally good, provided then, that we have been able to ascertain a “profitable niche”.
Now YES, finding a niche is the most important part of the “affiliate marketing business” (either the a) or b) option, it does not matter). Both has the same major issues: Getting and identifying a good and profitable niche (or niches = a lot). You have to set your own personal monthly earnings-target (how much do you wish to earn each month??), then you find some adequate and profitable niches and develop your affiliate marketing business, promoting other people’s products and thereby earning x-time commissions.
NOTE: Say one niche website earns $50/per month in commissions, that’s okay – you only have to find niches and set-up 30 niche-websites and averagewise, you can earn 30×50=$1500.-/month.
One can say – with “affiliate niche-marketing” – you can adapt and set your monthly target earnings-objectives in accordance with your earnings-wishes and or -requirements. Of course this won’t be achieved directly in one month! But, with proper keywords- and niche-research, if you are successful in bagging the correct niche, then after the initial period, your websites will be productive & effective and they will be able to earn the targetted amount of money “month after month”, as we say “on auto-pilot”.
This is my vision of my “affiliate niche-marketing business” sellling other people’s products: Earning money month after month in a satisfiable amount of $$, not pessimistic, truly not over-optimistic, but just taking a realistic “acceptable figure” … this is my realistic down-to-earth vision (5 year-plan).
My Action Guidelines:
I would like to start doing “affiliate-niche-marketing”, and stay on this strategy, with a 5-years objective in mind of “targetting a monthly earnings” of $25000.-/month.
I have observed the steps to be taken as follows:
1. Let us find and determine the profitable Niche-Market, and or Markets.
2. Do KeyWords Research on the proposed profitable niche, and identify the main KeyWords.
NOTE: These main KeyWords are important – as they will determine my choice of domain name.
3. Determine the domain name and go to Name Cheap to get the domain (with dot.com) containing the main KeyWords.
Get the hosting thru HostGator or NPN. Build website, a high-converting squeeze-page, incorporating the chosen domain-name.
This is SEO strategy.
4. Find articles about this niche (Amazon.com) and write about 5-7 “articles with a great & unique content”.
5. Leads Generation Strategy:
Get leads thru double opt-in and getting opt-ins by “offering FREE stuff”, such as the free info-newsletters to subscribers, who wish to subscribed as they wish to receive the FREE info-newsletters and the freebies (what?? “bribing-strategy”). These info-newsletters have great content and value; they are full of information, great and relevant materials about the market-niche.
6. Develop & Get Traffic: The proposed Get-Traffic Strategy.
What is Traffic? We identify 2 traffic models
a) organic free traffic, or search engine traffic and
b) forced traffic, including paid traffic (ads, exchanges, safelists etc).
c) Others, including backlinks, articles, ezines, blogs etc.
Please any inputs and or questions, send all comments to me direct [freakdotjazz2atgmaildotcom]
Thank you very much. It is great to be here Eric.
Thanks for your eyes opener tips.
God Bless you and to your success,
Yours Truly,
Pudjo.
my name is gary i just bought your ten books with the resell rights what i dont know is how to copy them or turn them into cd i could sell them all for the same price but i still dont know how to copy them also im listrd as an affilate of yours i get 50 e mails a day how do i send the people to your website to buy from you i think those are potential customers could you help me out a little bit being an affillate is the fastest way to get started i think do i need a web site to send to your page or can you tell me how to do it with the e mails i receive every day
I find it easy choosing a niche, if it’s something you enjoy and passionate about, doesn’t make it seem like it is so much work.
Will definitely check out part 2
Hello Gerald,
In order to send people affiliate offers, you will need to have your own list of subscribers.
Eric discusses how to build your own list of subscribers in the following lesson:
For a very simple and affordable way to offer materials on disc, we recommend Kunaki: http://kunaki.com/
They can make DVD’s for as cheap as $1 each. They can also fulfill and ship your orders for very low prices.
Thanks Eric!
It’s an interesting explainging for me; especially as basis knowledge for a newbie.
Thank you Eric, I got your book and I’ll get back to you after I read it. I wanted to ask you. What should I do if I know the niche I chose has a lot of competition but the product or service is not very common, but the niche is very common? For example let’s say I have a rubber band or How to cook eggs, but my rubber band is a super rubber band and my way to cook eggs makes the person more energetic. These are just examples.
I think it sounds like a good opportunity. Competitive niches are good because it’s proof that there’s money in it. And if your product is unique within the niche, that’s great. It can be difficult if your product is so unique that the people in your niche would never even think to look for it, but that’s where your job as a marketer comes in.
Thank you for the comments that you have given to others. I can tell that I need to focus HISFarm.co. I am working on a layout that allows me to have different categories with affiliate products on different pages. Would you recomend more websites that use wordpress then, clean them up and focus on the different aspects: Tools, Garden, Ecological Gardening/ home maintenance? Thank you!

Hi Eric. I’m glad we are now getting to the meat. I mentioned earlier that I started 4 years ago trying to get into the internet business. I’m not giving up because I believe I will make it. But I’m still battling my demons of fear, lack of confidence, self doubt, procrastination, etc. I’m happy to say with your lessons I’m fast overcoming these and getting started. I have set my self goals and targets, thanks to your encouragent. In the last four years, I have been gathering all kinds of information but failing to action!
In the process, I have identified some niches. E-Books is my main niche and I am learning how to produce them. My first specific niche in this area is about taking your health in your hands. I’m passionate about and practising alternative health. What do you think about this niche? I think it has a lot of sub niches. I love to write and would like to develop ebooks in other areas as well. But this will take a little time. I need to make money NOW like yesterday. So I have been looking at setting up a website for Pay-per Lead. I read somewhere that this is a good niche for early income. What do you think? I also looked at affiliate marketing which is claimed to be fast to set up for early income while I work on developing my own products. I rearlly would like your comments and advice Eric. Thanks again for this opportunity to learn so much from your generosity.
Hello Nombulelo,
Many marketers are finding great success in health related niches. Also, it’s great when people can find natural health prevention tips and remedies in the midst of so many harmful drugs!
Cool now I think I found my niches by looking thur those list.
I downloaded the How to have your own Info product in 30 days and I just wanted to let you know that the Free 2-hour DVD of Internet marketing secrets did not work. I tried to access it three times.
Hello Sian,
Russell would be happy to help you at the following link:
http://support.customerhelpdesk.org/home
things are starting to come together in my old thick head of mine. thanks for the patience and teachable talent you have. some more good books is John Maxwell (failing forward) (the leadership in you and others.another good book and I do not know the author is acres of diemonds.
Thank you for letting me do this course, as a low income, paycheck to paycheck citizen this is my way to my vision
Back-end product, Back-link, Back-office . . . I’m confused. Did I miss something along the way?
Now I’m really confused. When I ordered your course, I knew it was about info-marketing; I want to do my own writing. But I thought, as a safeguard, perhaps I needed the e-books you offered as well, as you said they were unique and you’d already vetted them meticulously. So I spent more money I didn’t really have. Now in Lesson 19, I’m suddenly deluged with more free PLR books, and I’m feeling like I want nothing to do with “flooding the internet” with this stuff. I’m sick at heart. What do I do? Am I just being provincial? Can I still get my money back?
A “back end” product is simply product(s) that you sell to your customers after they make an intitial purchase from you. You’ll hear a lot of marketers say “the money is in the back end”.
Back link is just a link from another website to yours. I explain this extensively in lesson #78.
I don’t recall mentioning back office, but that’s basically just a term for your back end process. The system and/or people that run the back end of your business.
I’m not sure which course you ordered, but I would encourage you to give it a try. I’m sorry you felt deluged with more PLR ebooks. Please don’t feel like you need to download them all! If you need a refund on any product, please get in touch with my helpdesk at http://www.ericsupport.com
Thanks for your business,
Eric
That’s why I have gmail accounts now…
Eric
Talk about failing sometimes before you succeed, I know what that’s all about. I have been trying to get started with an online business for about 2 years wwith no success, but I’m still here and will work at it until I succeed. I’m really greatful to find your website and to become a member. I’ve learned more in the last 3 weeks as I’ve watched your video’s and have done your homework assignments than I have from places that tagged me big time and gave me nothing or so it seamed.
I’ve had a cleaning service for the last 31 years, so I know about sticking it out. I’ve been trying to find something to replace that income for about 10 years now and have gotten wrap up in online marketing, but know nothing about this type of marketing. SO I’m starting at the begining and doing your video’s one at a time, followed by the action steps.
Thank you very much for these videos and for helping poeple like me to do something they don’t know hwo to do.
Jim
thanks eric for the info on tactics on find a niche and how good is the niche all around.
I’m enjoying your lessons Eric. Although I’m new to this business, I’ve already had some websites set up and wish to add many more. Your lessons will teach me how to add the links, banners, and other ways to monetize my system, I believe this to be true? In addition to this, I wish to learn to build my own sites as well. Even though I have some sites already created, your lessons will assist in helping me to focus on one or two initially, until I begin to profit and then I’ll work on some of my other sites. Are there indiviuduals out there who build websites inexpensively, and who will also assist me with adding the links and banners until I learn to do this on my own? One person who created a few of my sites will add one link for me, but because I need to get my sites up and running now, I want someone who will add all of my links so that I can then afford to slowly learn all aspects of creating websites, while still making money on my current websites.Help!
Hello PT,
Here is Eric’s lesson on outsourcing your website:
Wow, Eric, these lessons are “OFF THE CHARTS”. I am really loving this one. I have been stuck here.
I had considered starting with something I dont know anything about, but I had no idea that was a marketable possibility.
I am also considering your membership site– I saw it on Carol Amatto’s website! Thank you so much! Mary
Hello Eric,
I have started to develop some affiliates marketing first. But still this lesson has stimulated my mind about a product that I have been wondering for a long time and would like to hear your opinion about. I live in a small country (2million population with the own language) where I had worked as a Clinical Psychologist (trainer, coaching psychotherapy etc.). What do you thing is it worth to think about an online Marketing with some evergreen topics, selling my own products in my native language, maybe to translate some PLR e-books and supplement the offline trainings. Thank you for your reply. Marija
A valuable piece of information.
Thank you,Eric.
it would be nice to be able to download your video tips so we can go over and listen to it again
1.Open up your favorite text editor and write 500-1000 words, selling me a ‘How To Get Better Grades’ ebook for $37.
2.Ebook new version
3.Leading technology discover
4.Powerfull affordabble easy to use
5.Most popular make more out of each day /THANKS VIPIN
Hello Marija,
Yes, that is a great strategy that has worked well for many other online marketers. If there isn’t much competition in your native language yet, you might get a lot of business in the niches you promote.
Hello Paul,
You are welcome to watch them again anytime here at Eric’s Tips. Eric plans to make the whole course available on DVD when it’s finished.
Hello Eric
I’m the Brit. from Macedonia just returned from England after a trip there sorting out a home for us all to return to, so I am catching up on the last few weeks tips accumulated on my PC. I so missed the daily dosage, that I was beginning to get withdrawal symptoms !! at this point I must admit to previously starting a dismal web site before finding your wonderful course, which has made me realize how much I did not understand before I started. But enough of this typically British mellow dramatic mumbo-jumbo nonsense, the site I created, http://www.getmoneyquickadvice.com has been a total failure from day one, although I had high hopes for it all, so I was just about to call it a day and look for a job stacking shelves, when after listening to your inspirational lessons, I now believe there is light a the end of the tunnel, so I continue and will try other niche avenues, and with your advice I will I think be pointing in the right direction. One niche I should like your advice on is Wooden Garden sheds ! a subject I know nothing about other than I really like gardening!! What do you think ??
