LESSON #2: What is an online business?

By | June 12, 2008

Contrary to what some of the so-called guru’s may say, having an online business is not for everyone. But in order to judge whether it’s a good fit for you, we first must define what an online business is and what it isn’t.

Please watch the following video:

Main points:

  • My personal definition is that it’s a business which is conducted primarily on the internet.

  • A website is NOT an online business.

  • It’s not a job.

  • There may be risk involved, but it’s all about how you perceive it.

  • If you’re afraid to start a business, then you need to either…

    a) get over your fear

    or

    b) decide to be happy with your job, and forget about starting a business

    Action steps:

    1) Answer the following question honestly:

Do I want to run my own business?

As always, you are welcome to post your questions and comments below.

    Have a great day!

      Eric,
I purchased your firesale about a week ago. When I was downloading all of the programs that came with it, my computer crashed. Can you or anyone tell me how I can get the products that I purchased? I bought all three of the products. Thank you,
      Raymond Harris

      Hello Heidi,

We’re not familiar with that product, and haven’t done a review. But, I’m sure that Gary would be happy to answer any of your questions as well as point you to any other marketers’ reviews.

I have bi-polar disorder. Does anyone know if starting my own online business might be too stressful? (My doctor says that I should not be under a lot of stress).

If you want to save Eric’s tips in a folder just right click on your desktop screen (where all your shortcut icons are)move your pointer to new and then click on new folder in the pop-up name it Eric’s tips, when you open each lesson right click on the big blue heading and save file to desktop Eric’s tips folder. When you want to review lessons you don’t even have to open your Email just double click on the folder and then click on whichever lesson you need they are all numbered

      Hello Michael,

Anything can be stressful if you don’t enjoy it. But, if you enjoy what you’ve seen and tried so far with an online business, then keep pursuing your dreams! 🙂

Hi Eric, I just listened to Lesson 2. Your lessons are short and meaningful.
To comment on L2, I am determined to start an online business. It has always been my dream. I am always looking for something viable and to date have not found one which I could call it my Online Business. I always strongly fee that I will succeed one day. That is why I enrolled for Eric’s Tips.

Eric – regarding lesson 2: I’m a retired manager of a brick & mortar company and of the opinion that the employees had the easiest jobs; the managers worked much harder and the sole proprietor worked the hardest and took the most financial risk. So, in thinking about a way to supplement my fixed retirement income it occured to me to want to be an affiliate of business, both on and off line. Is online affiliate marketing an online “business”?

      Hello Jay,

You don’t have to be a business to get into affiliate marketing. Some people have earned money within minutes of promoting their first affiliate product.

You can however, make affiliate marketing a part of your online business model. It involves your time and energy, just like a brick and mortar business.

I think sometimes all we think of are the rewards of an online business and we don’t think of all the time, money, and effort that comes with it. It’s not easy, especially if you’ve never done anything like this before. It’s taken me 2 years to get to where I am and that’s really not all that far. I’m just now starting to understand all that is involved. Trying to go it alone and do everything by myself has taught me alot but in my ignorance has also hindered my progress. But the answer is, yes, I want to own my online business. No matter the frustrations, I keep chugging along. Thanks Eric for making me THINK about it.

I and also my guys happened to be going through the great tricks found on your web site then before long got a horrible feeling I never expressed respect to the blog owner for them. Those ladies are actually certainly glad to read through all of them and now have pretty much been loving these things. We appreciate you simply being indeed helpful as well as for choosing this sort of great tips millions of individuals are really desperate to be informed on. Our sincere regret for not expressing appreciation to sooner.

I am a newbie and your information was sent to me by my father who is a great fun of yours. Seeing and listening to your videos and reading your tips made me understand what to expect in the coming days how to conduct a business on line. Thank you for being my mentor. I will finish and apply everything that you will teach for I know I am in good hands.

Yes! To answer your question. But, I’m finding it difficult to transition to working for myself from working for an employer. I think I need time to implement what your taking about and I can see this “business” as something to develope my desire to be free of a job. I’m dreaming but for some reason I want this dream to be a realality.

I am disabled and really have no means to invest in any type of software or manual that can guide me through the process of starting a PLR business. I would greatly love some free and helpful advice that I can implement in a step by step approach. Thanks!

In the early comments today, someone said they hoped everyone is putting the lessons to work and getting started. My question is: How can we start when we have so little info right now?
I love your program too, Eric, Nearly all the affiliate letters say free, but it’s a huge lie, unlike yours. This is the first free item I’ve ever signed up for. It might be better if you sent 2 lessons each time. I need something to sink my teeth into, you know what I mean. Thanks again. Looking forward to more lessons.

I have tried about everything out there to make money on line and have had zippo success. Most of the problem is me because i would start one thing, get frustrated and then gone on to something else, and on and on…… Anyway I decided to stop everything and start over. My question is I am considering an ecommerce store but can’t seem to focus on a niche/product. Would I be better off just doing a blog with affiliate marketing instead. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Chris, your gmail account calls a folder a label. on the left menu or your email acct, scroll down to the end to the word “more” with an arrow. Click on the arrow and scroll down again, at the bottom you will see “Create New Label” click on that and a window will pop up and you can type in the title of your new folder(label). then go back to “inbox” and click on the email you want to put into a folder(label) and go to the icon (on top) that looks like a folder and click on the arrown , and your new title will be listed on the drop down menu. Click on the title and that will put your email in the folder. Hope that helps….
