LESSON #62: Introduction to Squeeze Pages

By | April 9, 2010

In the previous lesson we looked at how to set up a customer list, to capture your paid customers onto an opt-in list.

Today we’re going to shift our focus to prospects, and we’ll start by talking about squeeze pages…

(Watch this video…)

Join my coaching club

Main points:

  • Squeeze Page: a landing page designed to collect the email address (at a minimum) of the visitor, through an opt-in form.

  • Squeeze pages have one objective: getting the visitor to opt-in.

  • Prioritizing Squeeze Pages vs. Sales Pages

In most cases, you will make more money by sending the majority of your traffic to a squeeze page instead of a sales page. There may be some exceptions, and of course it should be tested.

  • Long copy vs. Short copy

In most cases, shorter is better. (See video for examples)

Short copy presents the visitor with a clear value proposition and keeps the opt-in above the fold.

  • Essential ingredients of a squeeze page:

    1) Attention-getter (Headline)
    2) Benefits (What they get and how it helps them)
    3) Call to action (Enter your name and email)
    4) Opt-in form

  • How much information should you collect?

The more information you collect, the smaller the percentage of visitors that will opt in.

The less information you collect, the greater the percentage of opt-ins.

The more information you collect, the more valuable the lead. (More ways to market to them, and possibility of lead brokering)

  • Using freebies/incentives on your squeeze pages:

    Physical product:
    -CD/DVD
    -book/report

    Digital product:
    -article
    -video
    -newsletter/ezine
    -e-course
    -report
    -ebook
    -membership
    -software

  • Give away something of VALUE to your prospect that will…

    -truly help them
    -prove your credibility
    -build their trust
-leave them thirsting for more (so you can sell your product)

  • What kind of people do you want on your list? (Who is your ideal prospect?)

What you give away will affect who ends up on your list. Give away something that will attract your IDEAL prospect.

  • If you haven’t yet signed up for a list hosting service, I recommend AWeber Communications

  • For additional education on list building, please see my List Building Pack

    Action steps:

    1) Determine what your ideal prospect looks like.

    2) Decide what you’re going to give away to get them on your list.

Once you’ve got those things figured out, it’s time to build your squeeze page. We’ll be doing that in the next lesson.

As always, you are welcome to post your questions and comments below.

    Have a great day!

      Eric,
I don’t think anyone teaches this like you do. I’ve learned so much from you. While we are learning the squeeze page piece, please demonstrate how to create the link to the gift once the customer opts in. Thanks again.

      Hi Eric,

Thanks for the great tips and information you give us… it is appreciated!

In the email you said you add hundreds of people to your list everyday using this… may I ask you to expand on how you get hundreds of people… how do you market the squeeze page to get that many sign ups everyday?

      Thanks again Eric!

Great lesson Eric, I have a great product im about to market. Now i also have some keywords which relate to this offer, about ten. They have decent search volume and not to competitive so should i build a keyword optermized squeeze page for each.Is it possible to rank a squeeze page?

      Reply
    8. Eric Post author

Yes it is possible to rank a squeeze page, but unless you’ve got a ton of inbound links to it, you may need to make it what I call a “split focus” or hybrid squeeze page to give it more depth and make it more attractive to the search engines. I’ll be talking about it in an upcoming lesson.

And later on I’ll be covering many other traffic methods other than SEO… so the squeeze page doesn’t necessarily need to rank πŸ˜‰

Hi Eric, I do agree what you said here plus you should giveaway something related to your niche. E.g. if you are in a weight loss niche, when you giveaway

“Discover how you can lose 20 lbs in 1 month without doing any exercise nor on any diet programs guaranteed!”

something like that you will then attract someone wants to lose weight but don’t want to do any exercises nor on any diet programs….

I am not sure if it is possible but you get the idea πŸ˜›

These videos are fantastic Eric. Well Done. The big thing for me right now is how to get traffic.
I am still not making videos yet but I hope to start soon. I see yours have some pages that appeared to be done in powerpoint or something like that and also Camtasia. Do you cut and paste these shots. Thanks again

      Hi Eric,

Great lesson as always. You mentioned in a response to me a couple of lessons back that you liked the light box to see some “preview videos” on my sales page. I have had some professional videos created to drive traffic to this page. Just add /iflash.html to see the video.

So my question is do I just leave things alone as I had planned and hope they select the “preview videos” or do I try and use the domain name as my squeeze page and then shift everything to a subdomain without the preview videos button? Please check the video to understand what their expectation will be.

      Thanks

Thanks for the great insights, Eric! So far I’ve not been so successful in enticing people to my squeeze page. And I think part of the problem is that I have not really decided who my ideal customer is! I’ll make my next squeeze pages using your example. Again, thanks!

Yes I cut and paste them, or just record directly in Powerpoint, or OpenOffice Impress using Camtasia.

I will be covering traffic πŸ™‚

I think you can do both. Depending on where the traffic is coming from, you may want to send it either to the sales page or to a squeeze page. And you would not have to shift it to a subdomain. You could simply rename your sales page (something like sale.html) or you could keep your sales page on the home page, and create a squeeze page with a different name.

Either way, I would try to implement a squeeze page somewhere, because it will help you build a list much faster than just using the “preview videos” button on your sales page. Also that light box still does not look right in IE for me. It appears near the top of page so I have to scroll up to see it.

As far as whether or not to send affiliate traffic to a squeeze page or a sales page, I’d much rather send them to the sales page because I think it’s unethical to try and capture the name and email address when the affiliate should be doing it. In other words, if the traffic being sent by the affiliate is being sent to a squeeze page, the people being sent by the affiliate to the squeeze page won’t know the difference between a squeeze page put up by the owner of the product the affiliate is selling and a squeeze page put up by the affiliate, so that’ll be a disincentive for affiliates to put up their own squeeze page so they can tell those same people about other products as well and offer bonuses for those products to those same people who opted into the affiliate’s list. The product owner sending affiliate traffic to a squeeze page would absolutely kill that process because affiliates who use squeeze pages to give away a bonus to an affiliate product know that the people they send to the offer don’t want to have to opt into another mailinglist just to get to a sales page for a product they want to buy now because the affiliate was able to convince them they need it now. On top of that, I don’t believe in forcing people to opt into your mailinglist just so they can get to the sales page.

      Hi Eric,

Very interesting point about what you give away will have a direct impact on who your target prospects, or market, will be. I guess the old saying of begin with the end in mind counts here.

      Thanks for the good content.

I think you have ESP. I am trying to work on building lists right now! I’ve been gone from Eric’s Tips for a month or two..off on a tangent getting into a little freelance writing to make some $$$, publishing on Lulu and selling books on Amazon to pay for my web hosting and business expenses.

I still am struggling to create my own product, but I have been using PLR to giveaway to create list. I have submitted some to the download sites using html2exe compiling. And I use my blog to hold everything I’m doing in one spot. My niche is evolving into information products and software…just as you suggested Eric. I like that since I was an English major in college. But the one problem I still have is driving traffic.

I’m back and on track with the lessons!

Hi Eric, I have a question. I just bought your list building pack and you have done something I need to know how to do…

When you create a download page how do you obscure the exact page that is used to download the product ? I would like a lesson on that or even a quick answer that I can go investigate.

      Thanks!

      Hi Erick,

In this video you said that leads can be sold to others and tons of other business that buys leads for big money.
Can you please give me some information on where can I find those people or businesses who buy leads. You said there are tons… Can you please let me know who are those because, I am interested in using your techniques in doing lead generation and selling those leads to businesses who buy them for big bucks. I understand that is verry profitable.
I tried searching online, but i have no idea what to search for. Do you know any websites? Can you help me please. I look forward to your reply.
Thanks again, I really like your lessons…

Go to some affiliate networks like CJ, and CPA networks like Azoogle. Look at all the companies paying per lead. Some of those are companies using the CPA networks to directly buy leads for themselves. Others are lead brokers who are paying for leads and then reselling them to other companies. Do some searches for “lead brokers” and you will begin to understand how they work.

      β€’ Hi Eric,
Thanks for breaking this down for us. What I wonder if you have prepared for us is the β€œhtml” coding for a squeeze page, with an opt-in aWeber link, a link if you may want to include a video (Micah said Camtasia has a free download, so perhaps including that link with a demo on how to use Camtasia for NEWBIS) and this way we can have, in a sense, a template to build from, and just modify text and video, and graphics when needed. Would you be willing to assist us with that? Or might it be somewhere I have not yet seen? Of course that may mean we need access to template graphics (free graphics) and as we make our first sale (PLEASE let us hope this will be soon) then access to graphics we could buy or create? I know Photoshop is pricey, so any poor newbie alternatives would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for your help! You and Micah are AMAZING!!!
