LESSON #7: What kind of online business will we build?

By | June 20, 2008

In the first 6 lessons, my goal has been more or less to give you the proper perspective of this whole online business thing.

So now let’s talk about what kind of business I’m going to be showing you how to build.

(Watch this video…)

Join my coaching club

Main points:

  • Primarily I’m going to be showing you how to build an information marketing business. In other words, you’re going to create and sell your own Info Product.

(Info products may include… audios, videos, interviews, home study courses, workshops, teleseminars, webinars, email courses, newsletters, CD’s, DVD’s, books, and more)

  • Secondarily, I’ll be covering affiliate marketing because it really goes hand in hand quite nicely with information marketing.

  • These are the two methods by which I’ve made the most money online.

  • If you’ve already chosen another online busines path: although those are the two business models that I’ll be teaching, there are countless other types of businesses that could fit with much of what I’m going to teach. In other words, keep watching the lessons!

  • Why have I chosen the info product route?

    a) You need your own product!
    b) An information product can be created for low cost or zero cost.

    Action steps:

    1) Get some rest and get fired up to start your online business.

So now that we know WHAT we’re going to do… the next step is to make sure you’ve got the proper tools on hand to get started. You don’t need a whole lot, but there are some things, and I’ll talk about those tools in the next lesson.

As always, you are welcome to post your questions and comments below.

    Have a great day!

      Hi Gary,
I see tons of blog replies on Eric’s Tip blog from you. I curious, are you affiliated with Eric in some way? It seems like you’re his backup replyer.

He’s not affiliated, just very active in the discussion. Actually I wish more people would get involved like him 🙂

      Eric, Wow,

I’m really enjoying finding some one at last who tells the truth, about how to do things online instead of leaving me hanging:

I am already fired up Eric. You have chosen the two areas I had already decided to go into before I started watching the videos. It is refreshing to see someone willing to share his knowledge and help those of us that don’t know where to turn to learn to put the pieces we have together.

Eric: I got a very special impression of you at the very inception, seems to be up my street on very many counts. Then you mention rest on the seventh lesson, that’s a good sign you are a compatriot, a fellow sojourner, great. By the way the dates posted on these massages to you tell that all these leassons have already been given. I am at leasson 7 and this is January 12th, since these lessons are simply repeats can I just have them all at once speeding up the process this side. Whatever comes with granting that request please, please, I simply want to move the process quicker. Hope we can get together sometime, internet, telephone or otherwise, much in common, ie we seem to have the greatest values of life in common

I’m working on it. I hope to release the full course in one package within the next few months. You can work ahead by going to the LESSONS category on this site, up to the most recent one I’ve posted (I’m still working on the series).

      Hi Eric!
Thank you for lesson #7. Your kid looks cute. I guess you must be very proud.
Do you have or recomend a WP theme which I can use to setup a website portal to promote affiliate programs. Would that be a good approach?

      Reply
    12. Eric Post author

Yes a WP blog is a good approach. You can use any theme that you like… but since it’s for product promotions I would make sure it’s a CLEAN looking theme, not cluttered, with easy-to-read font. I’ll cover WP in more depth later in the lessons.

what a great place! I am glad I found you, thanks for all this valuable information. I like the small bits – this is much more fun than reading hundreds of pages. Is there an archive where I could go back to review previous lessons?

thank you for the lessons they are very much appreciated. I just have a quick question for anyone that might know the answer. has anyone heard of synthasite.com. its a free website with a subdomain name. it seems a little better than the free website i got from the home cash course. is this a good place to get practice for a newbie like me before i go out and start buying domains and web hosting.
      again thanks for the lessons.

in general I do not recommend free hosting. As I explain in lesson 23 and 24, it’s important to have your own domain and on your own hosting account. You could practice on free hosting, but I’d rather practice on your own domain… because then you’ll “own” it.

I already have a site, my question is with the C-panel information. Should I share this info with someone working with me, or just the Administration site? Love your advise, can’t wait to hear from you and thanks so much for what you share

It just depends on whether you trust them. It’s good to have someone you can trust who has access to your site. If someone is working on my site, I generally give them access to it.

So far I’m still here and waiting the next lesson. My spelling is not the greatest will that be a problem?

I don’t think that will be a problem. There’s always spell check 😉

If you have a friend who is better at spelling and grammar than you are, it is a good idea to have that person read your manuscripts before you go live with them. The spell checker is good for catching many typos; however, it will not identify when the wrong word is used — such as from instead of form. I had a typing teacher many years ago say “never proofread your own stuff.” Since your eyes work with your brain, you tend to see what should be there instead of what really is. Another person will not have the preconceived idea of what you meant to say.

      Hi Eric,

Just finished lesson #7. I am not too sure about this information marketing; however, I am willing to give it is shot since the profit margin is so high. I will continue working my e-commerce stores and, hopefully, I can find gems in the lessons that will be of great assistance in these areas.

I already created a autoresponse email on AWeber, but I have no confidence in it. I am looking forward to the individual steps. I feel like I jumped into the middle of things on AWeber and am totally confused. I am sure future lessons will straighten things out.

Speaking of investing, when starting out and in debt up to one’s earlobes (mostly mortgage), is 10% of sales a good jump-off place to begin investments — as in a separate savings account until it accumulates enough for a CD. At almost 60, I do not see much advantage in an IRA.

      Hi Eric,

Is it safe to say that you’re a fellow Christian like I am? You have alluded on a number of occasions to God and things in a biblical context and I think that’s awesome! Just wanted to say that I’ve been enjoying the tips and I’m looking forward to learning from you. Keep the faith!
