When I’m Not Marketing…

By | August 19, 2008

In case anyone was wondering why I haven’t posted any lessons in the past few days…

We’ve been doing some redecorating on the main level of our home, and I decided to create some new paintings for the walls.

Here’s what I did…

We’re going for more of a modern look in the living room, so I made this 2-panel abstract to go over the piano:
abstract painting
It’s called Psalm 1 (can you see a tree?) (48″x 72″ acrylic on canvas)

Then I painted this one, titled Fields of Grace, pictured here still on the easel:
dancer painting
The dancer is modeled after my wife, and I painted it in one sitting today. (36″x 48″ acrylic on canvas)

I really enjoy painting, but I typically only do it a couple times a year. When I’m done with the whole internet marketing thing, I hope to spend a little more time working on my technique and developing my style.

I’m back to working on the lessons tomorrow.

Art is 100% subjective, so feel free to post your comments and let me know what you think of my paintings, good or bad 😉

Have a great day!

    He Eric,
That stuff is great! I had to go get my wife and show it to her as she is an artist also. Love it. Keep up the good work.

I find that many of the people on the internet are artist, we love creating in many ways, and the internet has made it possible to expand creativity whether it is with creative posts, videos, I have done some videos, and I thought I was pretty creative on one in particular. But I started many years ago loving art, I was a graphic art student in college, way before they were using the internet. I love your paintings…I also have a video slideshow on my blog with my art. I just love how many creative people are using the internet….!!! Thanks for sharing with us your art work.

I am not an artist but I have a sister who is. Are you ever satisfied with a painting or are you like her and there is always something not quite right yet? Her style is different than yours but I like any style as I think it is such a talent to be able to paint anything.

You do have talent!! You should pursue your painting. You are very good at it and with practice, who knows? Another master, perhaps? It’s also a great stress reliever and gets the creative juices flowing. Keep up the fine work and thank you for sharing your talents and knowledge with us.

I am glad you shared your paintings and interest in painting. One of my web clients provides drawing and painting instruction by nationally known artists on DVDs. We are beginning to bring these to the Web for direct download. Currently the previews are working pretty well. So you opened the door for me to mention them, http://www.ccpvideos.com.

I hope some of your other supporters and students here have an interest too. You might also be interested in a coaching group for artists: http://www.artistconference.net.

While I am writing, and I have been meaning to since lesson one, I want to give you big hugs and say THANK YOU for this course. It is perfect for me. I am a web developer, but Internet Marketing is very different from what I’ve done for artists and educational institutions like the Oregon State Extension Service and the OSU Sun Grant alternative fuels development program. It feels good to be helping in a small way to support the move away from oil dependency. http://sungrant.oregonstate.edu

Hi Eric. It’s GREAT to be a good artist, BUT!
Haven’t you noticed the trend lately?

You’re supposed to present ‘anything’ but art and then call it ‘conceptual art’.
The lemmings out there are forking out hundreds of thousands of dollars for what is blatant ‘****’.

You need to re-define your artistic ‘niche’ to make money.
Keep doing what you’re doing with your art to make people ‘happy’.

    Pete.

Wow Eric, I didn’t know you painted! I liked both paintings, especially “Fields of Grace.”
…the shades you used in her limbs and her top really accentuated her flow through the air
…and I also liked how you visually painted the air around her flowing away from her… so carefree and flowing comes to my mind 🙂

    Hi! Bravo!
    You are gifted!
YES! I see a tree, an open book, a small table, in the background right I see books selfs, in the background left it is a flicker orange light of a warm fireplace. I think the abstract is your way to go. I saw some early paintings in one of your website, the tendency to abstract was visible, but non of them are so perfect as the Psalm 1 is.
The dancer is a different style is very well done, but as you pointed out the art is subjective, and my preference is Psalm 1. What you mean “acrylic on canvas”, I hope is oil on canvas.
I also appreciate your sincerity what is related with your faith, desired to share, love for your family.
I can say, I know you better now, and a new element of trust was added to your personality.

All the best for you and your beautiful family.

Great stuff. How about an impressioist style painting from your trip to Belize. I believe that the environment there lends it’s self well to that style and you certainly appear to be capable of a good result.

Thank you for sharing your work and your adgenda. It’s refreshing to have found someone so totally honest and I can’t wait to get your emails. I used to paint, and like you, just keep telling myself “one of these days, I’m going to get back to it” – hopefully for both of us, that will be sooner then later!

    Hey Eric,

Love the paintings. Perhaps you’ll consider my request for a commission. Let’s see, I’d like a sunrise over the Atlantic coast on 48 X 72 preferably oil but acrylic will do.

    No particular hurry.:-)

Seriously, though, how you keep the kids out of your paint? Do you have a special locked room or something? As a hobby, I sketch with charcoal or graphite…and it’s all I can do to keep my kids off and out of my pencils! I can’t even imagine what they would do if I kept something like acrylics in the house…

The fact that you’ve been able to accomplish creating these works of art without your kids ending up covered with toxic paint is a testimony to some seriously good parenting on your and Melissa’s part.

    Bravo!

(And ship me my commissioned piece in the mail as soon as you get a chance.)

    Sabrina
