Happy Thanksgiving 2008

By | November 27, 2008

(In case you saw the original title of this post “Happy Thanksgiving 2009”, there’s a simple explanation. I had just finished Thanksgiving dinner and sat down on the couch to hurriedly type this post. Apparently all that turkey tryptophan got to my brain, because I forgot what year it was and didn’t realize it until the comments started coming in 😉 )

I try to avoid making the cliché “holiday blog posts”. After all, do you really need to read ANOTHER sappy “I’m so thankful for…” article?

And in the Internet marketing world the way it usually works is the marketer says… Happy thanksgiving, now go buy this.

The fact is, I am incredibly grateful for my life and the people in it. But I’ll spare you the stereotypical thanksgiving “stuffing”, because I want to do something a little different.

First, I want everyone who reads this newsletter to know that I’m thankful for YOU. Without you, Eric’s Tips wouldn’t exist.

Here’s a FREE small gift as a token of my appreciation. It’s an ebook called Firesale Profits Revealed. I’ve made tens of thousands of dollars from quick little firesales, so this ebook talks about how to do it (Note: I didn’t write it… it was ghost written)…

Click Here to Download Now (Includes Master Resale Rights)

It also comes with Master Resale Rights and a full sales page for you to sell it from. Here’s the rights…

[YES] Can resell it and keep 100% of the profits
[YES] Can sell resale rights
[YES] Can give it away
[YES] Can bundle with other products
[YES] Can use as bonus
[YES] Can add to membership site
[NO] Includes Private Label Rights

Second, instead of making a huge list of things I’m thankful for, I want to know what YOU are thankful for. Please post in the comments below what you are thankful for.

UPDATE:

Thank you so much to every one who posted a comment below. Many of them brought tears to my eyes. I’m sure the comments have touched and inspired hundreds of people who have read through them.

I honestly did not know what to expect. I knew I would get some comments, but the depth and sincerity of them really surprised me, particularly in light of the difficult time the world is currently going through.

Thank you for reminding me that the difficult times reveal to us what we have to be thankful for.

There were so many great comments… honorable mentions include Michael Robinson, Keith, Michaela, Ron, Simon W Rosenberg DMD, Ray, Pete Bass, Glenn Hughes, Carol Huskison, and too many others to mention them all.

My “runner up” would be Scott, whose website is Ask the Wealth Squad, who said:

I am thankful for

The pain I sometimes wake up to make me enjoy the freedom of pain.

My divorce for making me realize what was missing in my life – a strong relationship with God and his son Jesus

My recent layoff from work which gave me time to think about what I wanted to do with my life when I grow up (Currently age 40 but not wanting to grow up just yet)

The recent drop in the stock market as it created the realization that invested in ourselves in the best stock to buy.

The courts for granting me custody of my wonderful son 13 years ago.

My parents for feeding me while I am laid off

My years of plenty and God’s wisdom to store some wealth so that I can live for a bit without worry.

The worry that comes from that time I can live on my savings which gives me courage to do something new.

My friends and family for doubting me when I was young as it gave me the strength to succeed.

My dogs who love me no matter what the world does.

The USA and the opportunities it brings to anyone who is willing to work and sacrifice.

Our soldiers who have died protecting those rights.

The 2nd Amendment which protects us from our government reaching too far.

The Constitution and the brilliance it brings to our lives.

Austrian economics to understand business cycles and realize that this too shall pass.

Your website and the generosity you show – and the realization that you can be focused on doing good in the world and making a profit at it.

The interest and the ease of access to information to see how the world really works.

My travels overseas to fully understand how different our country is.

For my website which is still a work in progress – so this post has to stir me to action to finish it 🙂

For God sending his son to suffer and die for me.

For every breath
For every step
For every tear
For every pain
For every fear
For every doubter

For without struggle how can we say we have overcome? How can we know victory without knowing loss?

We fail not when we fall but when we don’t get up.

Scott

For the “winning” comment, I am choosing Kathryn Duerst, whose comment embodies the spirit of thankfulness. Thank you for reminding me to take a second look to see the divine.

Kathryn said,

Gratefulness is the ability to see the good in every circumstance, as even the hard times and trials are intended by God to shape us into His beautiful image and build our character. This is what I have heard all my life, but it does not come naturally without the practice of seeing as He sees. At first glance, I see the human side only, and it takes a second look to see the divine.

At first glance, I see the folks I care for at my jobs, elderly and handicapped people, and I think how difficult it must be for them to live in a body that does not perform as one wishes it could. Then I recall my training, that these people are gifted and special, and I am to come alongside as a friend, enjoying them and the value they contribute to my life. They do not want pity.

Seeing the one who has his feeding through a tube, I am grateful I can taste food and feel it going down my throat. Seeing the one who depends on me to be his eyes, I relish the many beautiful colors, shapes, lights, and bright eyes I can see. Seeing those who must move slowly in a wheelchair or with a cane, I exult in my bouncing steps down the hallway to answer the next call. These people make me know how good I have it.

And I wonder, if I was in their situation, would I be as pleasant? The blind man is so full of stories, memories from almost a century of life. He is one of my favorite people.

The one who gets a tube feeding every morning is so sweet and cooperative as I brush his teeth, lift him to his bath, and pour rinse water over his head; he trusts me completely. What faith! He seems grateful to have me there to help. I get to feel very needed and useful.
Then I think how much we all depend on each other. I depend on people like Eric to teach me everything about Internet marketing; without a mentor, I would be very handicapped online. I am so grateful there are people with a spirit of giving, to help me see hope in my circumstances. They breathe the divine viewpoint into my perspective.

So I am not just a struggling laborer, working for ten dollars an hour, 60 hours a week, a single parent of seven, wondering when I will get my lucky break. I am part of a divine drama in which God has me and others doing whatever most demonstrates His love to one another each moment.

I am grateful I can serve and help the people I care for, and I am grateful I have some time left over after all the hours I put in at work to pay the bills, so I can be with my family a little while, and I can work online, too, for the day my online business will free me to be wherever I am needed most, just because I want to be.

This evening, I am spending the time with my family and the family of my daughter’s fiancé, and I have a few days off before the wedding to prepare for it. I feel incredibly blessed to enjoy this special time and relish it, because in a few days, the happy couple will be moving 2000 miles away, and I will be working hard to be able to afford to visit them whenever I want to. Gratefulness makes the most of what I have now, and it sees the potential in the future. I am grateful for these blessings.

Kathryn from Minnesota

I will be mailing Kathryn the Traffic Stampede course as a prize.

Although the contest is over, it’s not too late to post your comment of thankfulness. I know I will return to this page for inspiration when I’m feeling discouraged. You might want to bookmark it and do the same.

Have a great day and a happy Thanksgiving!

    Eric,

There are some fabulous thanksgivings on this page. I can be thankful for so many of the same things: relatively good health, a house (not paid off yet though) a car with a loan, and sufficient food to eat. I lost my job in April and have been struggling to keep my head above water, pay the bills, and keep the creditors off my back. Still my friends and family have helped me out along the way–some with money and others with words of encouragement and advice. Though sometimes I feel alone, I know that I am not and that is something to give thanks for everyday.

I have two great kids and one is about to graduate from college next month. She is smart and knows what she wants to do with her life. I never did at that age. And my son will graduate from high school and start college next fall. It seems that everyday I wonder at the fact that I had something to do with how well m kids are turning out, that they care about people, and are respectful of others. I am truly thankful for them and the chance to help mold them into who they’ve become.

I give thanks to God for giving me the strength to keep on when things have gotten tough. Somehow I keep finding more reserves than I thought possible. I give thanks for the friends who have helped me along the way and for my family even when I don’t agree with them.

Life is to be cherished and there are always alternatives that can take you through the bad times. And it requires that we be open to those possibilities. I may or ma not become wealth from my Internet business, but it has broadened my life and gives back when I least expect it.

I pray that all people can look for the good in others and help them along somehow. You never know when that help might come full circle back to you. And that is something to give thanks for as well.

As I young disabled man who peak earning years were cut short, I am grateful for the people or person who is going to show me the way to make some money on the internet. My disability does not make me unable just more challenging however it does limit my choices and opportunities in life so I am confident that I am going to make it with the Internet. I have so much hope that I have been doing this for three years and without making any money have stayed with it and just pray patiently for my success to arrive. A higher power will send me the help through another person. This is what I am thankful for. Thanks for the opportunity to say this!

I am so thankful to God for the many blessings he has giving to my family. It was 1 year ago today that our family began down a road that brought us to the darkest of times as we all sat at the hospital and watched our new born son/brother die in my wifes arms. Today we were able to reflect back and see that even in our darkest hour, God has been faithful and continues to hold us in his hands!!

I’m thankful for my family and the day time we share together. Economically times are tough. That being said my wealth isn’t material-it’s the love we have for each other that makes me a very wealthy man. In church today, they spoke of 10 leppers that were healed by God. Only one of the ten turned and praised god and thank him for the miracle. The pastor was making the analogy that given the economics of today, people sometimes loose site of what’s really valuable. Then he went on to talk about an old Japanese proverb. It goes something like this “now that my barn has burned down and I’ve lost everything I can see the moon” So, I guess what I’m most thankful for is to be able to loved and love back and recognize what’s important-really important-in life before it passes me by with regrets.

    Hi Eric

Thanks for the lovely gift! Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

I am thankful for every single thing that happen in my life. Negativity is a perception of the mind. I have a choice to accept it happily, learn and rise above it or be unhappy and feel depressed about it.

I am thankful for the chickenpox (50th birthday gift ha…ha…) I have right now. I am thankful each time I see (happily)the dry scaps falling off ;)-. I am thankful for the time it puts me under “house arrest”; for allowing me to do spring cleaning, for going through Eric’s tips again, for trying to bake a new focaccia bread, to chit-chat with friends and the list goes on. Everthing happens for a reason. Here is a parting quote I wish like to share:

Little minds are tamed and subdued by misfortune; but great minds rise above them. — Washington Irving (1783-1859)

Proclamation of Thanksgiving by the President of the United States of America
The year that is drawing toward its close has been filled with the blessings of fruitful years and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the Source from which they come, others have been added which are of so extraordinary a nature that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever-watchful providence of almighty God

In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign states to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere, except in the theater of military conflict, while that theater has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union.

Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defense have not arrested the plow, the shuttle, or the ship; the ax has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than theretofore.

Population has steadily increased notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege, and the battlefield, and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.

No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently, and gratefully acknowledged, as with one heart and one voice, by the whole American people.

I do therefore invite my fellow-citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens.

And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners, or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it, as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes, to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity, and union.

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.
    —Abraham Lincoln

Anyway, here is my very own personal thankful list to the Universal Mind.

I am thankful for that to-day I am able to work with my own Computer and have this my own INTERNET CONNECTION and possessing a valid Credit Card with some balance (Ha!) in it (like to add a little note about the CC here. In Bangladesh having a CC is like possessing a diamond) and I am also thankful that today I am able to use the knowledge (computer knowledge) that I gained several years back by selling my maternal properties. I just knew back then that the knowledge will pay me back. Hey, I have not started to make money online yet. But I have this confidence that I will start to make money online soon. And I am also thankful for having this confidence.

    Well, that’s about it mostly.
Thanks buddies around the World and thanks Eric.

When I was a younger man, I always thought that I didn’t want to have children. Too much trouble.

Then I met the woman that would convince me to give it a try. And then she convinced me to try it again.

It’s been a great adventure. They’ve now grown and flown the nest.

And during this holiday weekend they have returned. It only took a few minutes for them to start bickering – mostly good natured – at one another.

As my children returned to the nest, a coworker lost his 17 year old daughter in a car accident.

I am so grateful that I can enjoy the beautiful music of my bicker kids and enjoy their love and life. And for the wonderful wife that gave them to me.

It seemed like only yesterday that I was reading them stories before bed each night. I am thankful for all the great books and special times we shared.

I know most of you reading this blog are much younger than me. So as my Thanksgiving gift to you, please accept some wisdom from an old guy.

Take the time to enjoy the moments. Really enjoy them if you have children.

We don’t know when they’ll end. And they go by so much faster than you can imagine.

    Make memories.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

I am thankful for my life that God has given to me. That I am with my big extended family and friends that love me and that I am living in my own country and just be happy like any other human being. Whatever happens, I just know that God will make good of it.
I am quite moved by many in this forum who wrote about their lives; their sufferings yet are thankful for everything that happened.

I’m thankful for all the positive kind and honest people of this world especially those like you Eric who think of their customers before the lure of mega dollars.

Let all think positively even in adversity and what a better place this world would be for all. Great believer in **** happens so deal with it myself.

I recently had a few days away on an island camping with no mobile phones, TV, laptop or even a radio which proved to be a great way to unwind from the stresses of life. I returned only to find the world in a financial mess as told by the media not to mention all the other negatives of the world news.

Imagine a world of more positive news than negative.

    Dream On.

Life is far from being perfect, but I’m thankful everyday that I’m still here alive and still can manage to comment on your post. I’m thankful for people like you who would bother helping people like me. I’m thankful for my family who is always there for me. I will always be thankful to God who never gives up on me.

    Thank you Eric

    Hi Eric,

Does Thanksgiving Day come only once a year? Do you spend only one day thanking God for what you have?

The other day I checked out the Clayton Makepeace site The Total Package and found an article posted by Daniel Levis. The article was titled “A Brand New Spin on Thanksgiving, And An Unusual Marketing Lesson … ”

The article described in graphic detail the life of Victor Frankl, a Viennese neurologist and psychiatrist who endured years of horror in a Nazi concentration camp. Frankl avoided the fate of others by finding meaning in his experience.

Does that teach us a lesson? For me it does – be thankful for what I have EVERY DAY, not only on Thanksgiving Day.

Thank you Victor Frankl … and Daniel Levis.

    … Allan.

This has been one of the most difficult years of my life. My wife has suffered with daily migraines and was hospitalized on Mother’s Day. Last month I lost the job I had been at for 15 years and like everyone else I’ve lost over 40% of my 401k.

Through all of the hardships God has reminded me that my happiness should not be based on money. I have a terrific wife and four wonderful daughters (two adopted from Vietnam) and great friends! I’m amazed at how God has blessed us.

Thanks for the site Eric. I just found it this summer and I love it. It’s not the typical “guru” site.

I am so thankful to the Lord for the privilege of knowing Him and for His Grace and Mercy in my life and through my life to others. Through all the ups and downs of life, its trials, tribulations and joys, He is a Rock Solid Foundation.

    Hello All,
I am thankful for people who have a way of bringing out the best in others. Just Like Eric has done here. I was feeling very low as I am in my forties have always been super active but now I have been bed bound for a few years, some of the stories here makes me a stronger and happier person in realizing how lucky I really am. When all the doors seems to close and darkness stands still somewhere a ray of light always appears from the opening of a new door. I am Thankful for each one of you and who you are.
